DEVDAS:All a Hype

MMMM why do I watch movies? Well usually after a long tiring day at work and on going daily problems we have. We would normally like to relax and de stress a bit by watching movies. Movies are meant to entertain and personally I love horror and comedy movies. I basicaaly watch movies to de stress myself. And I take the pains of going all the way to a theatre and waiting in a never ending queue and finally when I got to the counter, I heaved a sign of relief. I know im lazy ..... Anywey in the case of Devdas.....because of all the hype . comments like ’’ devdas is too good’’, ’’Devdas , simply magnificant’’, , blah blah.....Also I happended to see the news article of Devdas being screened at Cannes film festival, in which after watchin the movie, standing ovation of 8 minutes was given. Also I saw pictures of the breathtaking Ash in Cannes..... All this builded up expectation in me, so I went to the theatre, naturally other people just like me , fooled by all the hype.....were standing in a never ending queue.... I despaired but then I thought movie will be worth it..... Devdas(Shahrukh) is the story of a wealthy landlord , hes in love with his childhood sweetheart, Paro(Ash). He goes to London for his education and when he comes back he wants to marry her. But his father is against this , so Devdas tells Paro to forget him.Devdas loses heart and goes into depression and starts boozing and of course chandramukhi(Madhuri), a prostitue, who falls for him. The film shows never ending scenes of him sad and boozing all the time..... the film is very aesthetic in all its costumes....and music is good. Except I did not see the reason for the song ’’dola re’’ . Ofcourse I did wonder Why was jackie shroff in the movie , how he made his entry and exit, Only God and Sanjay Bhansali knows....but apart from that, three hours of agony left me feeling morose and depressed because Shah rukh khan dies.instead of feelin happy I came out looking glum. Moreover there ve been several discrpancies between the original story written by sarat chandra(Bengali writer who wrote the novel Devdas). For instance Both Devdas and Paros house are adjacent to each other when this was never the case. The meeting of PARO(upper class bengali lady) and chandrmukhi was not there in the novel. The list is endless. The acting by madhuri and sharukh was superb though it was irritating to see Shah rukh all the time with a bottle and moaning over Ash. Ash maybe looked breathtaking but I find her overacting irritating.

It was overall a depressive movie. I have always made it a point never to see sad movie coz they tend to affect me.
