MY REVIEW
This Film is about events that happened it the 1930s.
Devdas Family live in Bengal. They are very rich who spoiled him by giving him any thing he asked for. Even Paro, (is playmate), did everything he asked her to do.
Paros Mother felt that Devdas and Paro would get married someday. Devda must be well educated so his Family sends him to School in London, England.
When Devdas returns to India Paros Mother approaches his Family about Paro and Devdas getting married. Devdas Family refuses her request.
Paros heart is broken and she quickly gets married to a rich and much older Man, (Zamindar Bhuvan).
This is the first time Devdas Family has not given him what he wanted. He becomes an alcoholic.
One day he meets a beautiful Courtesan. Her name is Chandramukhi and believes he has fallen in love with her.
And here my tale ends because I never tell the ending of a Film or a Book.
~O THE ADS O~
In our newspaper this was advertised as a Modern Day Romeo and Juliet Movie. After seeing it I didnt think it was.
This may because I was reading the sub-titles and didnt grasp the meaning or the Promos were wrong!
THE MUSIC was recorded in Digital Sound, (from the album I just bought):
1) Silsila Yeh Chhaahat Ka is sung by Shreya Ghosla, (with a Chorus as back-up).
2) Maar Daala is sung by Kavita K. Subramanium and K.K.
3) Bairi Piya is sung by Shreya Ghosal and Udit Narayan.
4) Kaahe Chhed Mohe is sung by Kavita K. Subramanium, (Madhuri Dixit is reading poems in the background).
5) Hamesha Tumko Chaha is a duet that is sung by Kavita and Udit Narayan.
6) Chhalak Chhalak is another duet with Udit Narayan and Vinod Rathod singing it.
7) Woh Chaand Jaisi Ladki is sung by Udit Narayan.
8) Another duet is Morey Piya that is performed by Jaspinder Narula and Shreya Ghosal.
9) The Devdas Theme is so beautiful and my favorite song on this Album.
10) The last song is a duet called Dola Re Dola and sung by K.K.and Shreya Ghosal.
AWARDS
This film was an offical selection at the Cannes Film Festival in 2002.
MY THOUGHTS</b?
For a person from North America Bollywood Films are often to emotional and over-acted. They remind me of the acting of the Actors in a Stage Drama where their movements must be larger than normal.
The people from India who attended the film were crying
at the end. I must have lost something in the meaning of this film while I was reading the sub-titles.
Degas costume reminded me of cloths Men wore in the 1940s in North America. I thought that Degas is a very handsome and both Ladies were very beautiful.
This was not a great Movie although there were some nice moments.
I loved the Music, (much better than the Movie). You dont have to understand the words to like Indie Music.
Please do not let my review change your mind about seeing this Film. Each of us has different tastes.
- Please also forgive my spelling if I made errors in the East Indian words.
