The present king of the Tamil Nadu box-office is a garam masala movie. Yes, there are some political situations that the middle and lower classes would relate to, but the basic idea is to entertain and set the cash registers ringing.
The first half is used for our hero to pursue his love interests and to introduce the problem he has to tackle in the second half, as usual. Quite a few interesting characters and scenes are successfully employed to maintain the interest level of the audience. Adding to these are some innovative screenplay techniques like combining a super-charged fight sequence with a folk song.
The versatile actor in Vikram does justice to his role. Jyothika is impressive in places. Reema is present to satisfy the front-benchers. Vivek and Mayilsamy dont go overboard in their comic sequences.
The mostly folk songs are just average. Dharani seems to have hit upon a refreshing update of the commercial formulae of the 80s, though occasionally suffering from a hang-over of Dhil, his previous hit with the same hero.
