Friendship, Romance, Relationships....thats how I would describe the latest Aamir Khan starrer & directorial debut Farhan Akhtars movie `Dil Chahta hai. Id rather not go into the story or plot Coz it doesnt really have a serious kind of a story or plot..but yet `Dil chahta hai` is different, subtle, moving, and enjoyable.
The roles of the 3 main characters are so well sketched that one could easily pick Akash (Aamir Khan), Sameer(Saif Ali Khan) & Sid (Akshaye Khanna) from a bunch of college going guys. These 3 buddies are funny, different & have their own ideas about love and relationships. Akash is the notorious & flirty kind. He hates the very idea of falling in love...Sameer is the soft romeo who keeps falling in and out of love and Sid is the matured reserved guy.
The movie begins on a serious note and proceeds in flashbacks. The first half is devoted to the romance between Sid and Tara (Dimple kapadia). It is thrilling to watch Saifs experiences in love and how he settles for the final girl Pooja ( Sonali Kulkarni) The latter half has a lot of Aamir-Preity (Shalini) romance. The movie is not entirely a comedy film, it has some very emotional and touching scenes too. At some points it gets too slow, but manages to keep one engrossed. I wouldnt want to reveal the minute details of this film, as these are the highlights and surprises of the movie.
Watch out for Saif Ali Khan in this movie..He is wonderfully bubbly! Aamir ofcourse is the best of all. His expressions are worth every penny. Akshaye is surprisingly wonderful too. I guess the role fit every actor perfectly. The ladies have their bit to do and are good. Preity looks slim and fresh.
Music is above average. Choreography is zesty and colorful. The song Woh ladki hai kaha is wonderfully picturised..its quite funny actually.
All in all I guess its a great beginning and a good effort by the young director Farhan. All credits to him for making such a simple yet fresh movie about friendship and potraying characters you and me could easily identify with. This is definitely worth watching..so.. Go for it!
Regarding the success of the movie in the US, my guess is... It is doing above average business.
