Dil Dhadakne (ZNMD) DO (Part 2)

As Pluto Mehra narrated to the viewers about the ensemble cast of the movie and about their relationships & human characteristics, we as a viewer think that whatever he is pointing out is actaully very correct, and in turn get to roam new places in this venture called "Dil Dhadakne  DO" or "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara 2", though there are some differences between the 2, ZNMD was a travelogue to Spain, while DDD was a travelogue to Turkey-Greece cum cruise. I guess Zoya Akhtar has a setting or she may get heavy discounts on her tours for the whole cast as she shows these tourist destinations as a must-come destinations, and hence the last 2 ventures of her contains a story built around these places. But nonetheless, DDD has   more directions in its story as compared to ZNMD, and is more watchable than the previous one. I will recommend DDD as one time leisurely watch on big screen, why? Let’s see.

This movie is basically a family union thrown with the tour. There is a super-rich Delhi-based business family’THE MEHRAS’, head - Kamal Mehra(Anil Kapoor), his wife Neelam(Shefali Shah) is a purrfect high-call-kitty-party-over-the-board woman, and their two kids - Business-minded Ayesha(Priyanka Chopra) who is married to over-the-top narrow-minded Manav(Rahul Bose) & happy-go-lucky spoiled brat Kabir(Ranveer Singh) who is still searching for the meaning of his life in this otherwise non-linking family. They all have personal relationship issues with others and with themselves. Kamal plans a cruise trip as a marriage anniversary party and invites lots many high-class friends. Also, now his business is going on loss, so he plans to take investment help from a so-called vulture-ist businessman Lalit Sood(Parmeet Sethi) by planning to sell hi his 49% share of company, but how’s this possible, if somehow he get his son Kabir to marry Lalit’s daughter Noorie(Ridhima Sud). But on this trip to Turkey/Greece on a cruise ship, he falls in love with an artist/dancer Farah Ali(Anushka Sharma). Also Ayesha-Manav relationship is also deterioting due to the differences in their opinions and in comes Sunny Gill(Farhan Akhtar), the old love of Ayesha. In the end, a happy ending for all.

The story is basically about a family union, and movie has a direction, though movie starts up slowly, but gains on a leisurely pace, the screenplay has its parts of emotions & high-class melodrama & some comedy scenes, you’ll even get a pinch of Priyadarshan’s ending style. There are certain scenes which can be called as peak points of movie, esp the Hospital scene, when Kamal Mehra was taken to hospital and then Kabir started an argument, that scene was wonderfully made. All the characters are well-etched and the actors well acted, looked original in their given roles, probably they acted themselves, hence acted well:) Anil Kapoor steals the show, Ranveer looks good in his no-minding role, while Farhan & Rahul also supplements well. Anushka looks se&y. Manoj Pahwa looks perfect in punjabi businessman character who may have that much money but is punjabi to the core. The songs which are included in the movie goes well with the plot, 3 songs came in between, all are with high beats, "Girls like to swing" & "Galla Goodhiyan" are best of lots. The story is written by Reema Kagti alongwith Zoya, wherein the dialogues are written by Farhan & Javed Akhtar, and dialogues are good. Locales are beautiful, you’ll fall in love with Turkey/Greece and I myself now wanted to go on that cruise.

So barring few starting moments, the movie is a one-time watch, and you can go alonwith your partner to enjoy this family home-coming trip on producer’s money(obviously you’ve to pay the high-priced tickets). I will rate this movie as 3/5.

GRuchirG. Jai Raam ji ki:)

BTW. Pluto Mehra was their dog, and this narrative concept by a dog was well planned and used.
