Dil Hai Tumahara (DHT), is a movie Directed by Kundan Shah, remember him he is the one who had given fabulous comedy like Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron. His last film was Kya Kehana.
Coming back to DHT, the story begins with a happy going couple Sarita (Rekha) and Shekar (Sachin Khedekar) with a little daughter Nimmi. While Shekar is about to leave for work Nimmi holds him and ask him to take her for outing. However mama Sarita convinces the little one saying that since papa is too busy in his work she shall be taking her out. As promised mama takes the daughter to some Wonderland, where the duo enjoys the rides.
While enjoying the ride the lil one starts calling out papa, Sarita gets confused when she looks out she sees that her dear husband is enjoying other ride with some other lady and a lil girl. Seeing this mentally Sarita goes for a roller coaster ride and comes home and creates havoc.
Shekar drives back with the other lady in his car when the car meets with an accident. The other lady dies. Sarita comes to the hospital to see papa. Shekar asks her to forgive him and tells her that the other lady was his first love and because of Sarita’s papa’s obligation on him he was forced to marry Sarita. However he could not forget the other lady and time brought him back to his other lady. He also asks Sarita to promise him that she will take care of his other daughter Shallu as her own daughter. As soon as Sarita promises, Shekar dies in peace.
Sarita leaves the city and heads for Palanpur, Himachal Pradesh. On reaching Palanpur she becomes the Mayor of Palanpur (only god and Kundah Shah knows how she reached that post so soon).
Nimmi and Shallu grows up together with lots of love and affection towards each other. But right from childhood Shallu has a feeling that her mother is not treating her with the same love which her mother shower on Nimmi.
Nimmi and Shallu grows to two goodie goodie ladies (Mahima Choudhary & Preeti Zinta respectively). Shallu has a good friend Sameer (Jimmy Shergill) who is a ventroquilist. Sarita is still the Mayor of Palanpur, Mittal (Govind Namdeo) is keen enough to become a Mayor. (Its seems Kundan Shah does not know that the post of Mayor is only for a year and it is not an educational degree which will remain with you through out the life). Sarita was a Mayor when the girls were kids and she remains a Mayor till the end, is the government regulations of Himachal Pradesh not governed by Indian law?
Nimmi opens up her own boutique while Shallu is idle at home. Sarita keeps on yelling at Shallu for each and every act. To prove her mama wrong Shallu goes and joins Khanna Industries, by posing as a close known person to Mr. Khanna (Alok Nath) who is in Delhi and never visits the industry.
In Delhi Khanna’s son Dev (Arjun Rampal) who has returned from US after completing his education decides to take on the Khanna Empire in his hands and close down all the loss making units and for this purpose he hires two CEO’s who keep on roaming fixing a Batch stating ’’CEO’’ on their coat. How funny it would be if the CEO of all the company fixes such a batch on their coat.
Dev goes to Palanpur as a drivers son seeking employment. He gets the job of a driver. There he meets Shallu. Shallu and Dev does no work other than fighting with each other. I presume they know frequent fight leads to romance at a later stage.
Once Shallu takes Dev to Nimmi’s boutique, immediately on seeing Dev Nimmi falls in love with him.
One day Mittal alongwith the farmers and villagers comes to meet Sarita asking her to get proper prices for the products of the farmers. I am confused as to how a mayor is responsible for these things. Sarita however asks them to give her a days time to speak to Khanna and get justice.
Sarita plans to go to Delhi to meet Khanna however before she could leave she faints because of hypertension. Oh god now I get tension by this movie. Shallu decides to help her mama and earn a good name. She goes to Delhi and meets Khanna. Khanna advices her to introduce Dev as his son to the villagers as he resembles his son.
Dev poses as Khanna’s son and assures villagers of many things. But the manager recognises him and hands him over to the police as the police takes him away Khanna lands to save him.
Dev and Shallu are in love with each other. Dev plans to launch a new product to save Palanpur he authorises Shallu to make arrangements for the launch and hires Sameer as their model.
Dev once sends a 5’ glass idol as gift to Shallu. The gift reaches Shallu’s place before she could reach home. On seeing the gift and as there is no name of the receipient, Nimmi assumes that Dev has sent it to her and she feels overjoyed. Looking at her Shallu realises that Nimmi is in love with Dev and she decides to sacrifice her love. The best surprise of the movie comes her when Sarita who had beenb out of station returns back, Nimmi takes her to show the gift and now hold your breath the gift which was a glass statue has turned to a metal statue only Kundan Shah knows how.
Once seeing Dev speaking to Nimmi closely Sarita assumes that they are in love with each other. She meets Khanna and arranges for their alliance.
However Sarita comes to know that Shallu and Dev are close to each other so she gets wild and abuses Shallu and tells her that she is not her daughter, but she is the daughter of her husband’s mistress.
A day before the marriage Mittal comes to Sarita with a birth certificate of Shallu and black-mails her that if she does not co-operate with him he will reveal to Khanna that Shallu is not her daughter and he will see to it that the marriage gets stopped. Hearing this Shallu proceeds to Khanna and she reveals the entire story to Khanna. Khanna impressed by her guts assures that he will not stop the marriage. Sarita overhears the conversation between Khanna and Shallu and feels she has treated such a nice daughter badly all these years, and mother and daughter unite in a loving way.
On the day of the marriage Sameer tells Nimmi that all these years he has been loving Shallu but Shallu never loved him. Similarly Nimmi has been loving Dev but Dev never loved her. So now it is the duty of these two one sided lover to unite two true lovers.
Folks by now you must have come to know whether Shallu gets Dev or not.
Performance there was great expectation from Rekha but the expectations are not met. I had been to see the evergreen Rekha but age has taken toll on her appearance.
Of the two leading ladies Preeti has stolen the show.
Jimmy and Arjun needs to concentrate more on their acting abilities.
As far as Music of Nadeem Shravan is concerned nothing great except for ’’Mohabbat Dil ka sukoon hai aitbaar’’.
In a nutshell DHT is a mixture of emotion and the love of mother and daughters.
Mr. Kundan Shah can you tell me as a ventroquilist a person can either speak in his own voice or speak like the doll he holds, how come you have made Sameer and the doll speak at the same time, can you throw some light on it sir.
