DIL NE JISE APNA KAHA
cast: Salmaan Khan, Prity Jinta, Bhoomika
Direction :Atul Agnihotri
DNJAK is from the same production group which made tere naam.Through
this films Salmaans brother in law Atul Agnihotry (him self a small time hero once upon a time), makes a directorial debut.
The film which works on the premise that heart transplant is also an emotions transplant, revolves around three characters. Salmaan is in advertising business (so what, cant ad makers own seaside villas and mercedes cars, particularly when they are hindi film heroes). He has a very good wife and he is madly in love with her.
So far every thing fine, provided we can ignore Salmans hello brother hangover and handling his shirt as if it has been sprinkled with anthrax virus. His wife preity is a doctor, who works with heart patients though her dream is to make a big time childrens hospital.Just a little change, not bad at all considering some of us are in very different line that what we would like , and nothing wrong in dreaming when you are sure that your dreams will come to knowledge of others only after your death. She says so sweet every time you wink and gives stiff competition to rati agnihotri in being too sweet. But even this is not bad by our cinematic standards.
Then comes what makes the film tick(rather what ticks the audience). Its something that rarely happens in hindi films..a heart transplant. The second heroine Bhoomika is suffering from a heart ailment and needs a heart trasplant. Meanwhile our samaritan lady doctor meets with a slow motion accident and writes her heart in the name of the lucky heroine no two. And yes she dies without any facial injuries and with enough time and consciousness to say sweet things(so chweet) to her hubby.
Now heroine two is fitted with the heart of heroine no one, but wait, the heart is a micro storage device, which contains with it all the control information of love glands! So whenever the lady crosses our hero, her heart pounds and she does all those silly things that you do when it does.
The film has a predictable end , albeit with the not so predictable actions that only Salmaan can
do.
The film has a fair amout of supporting actors too. aunt Rati is in vogue these days, with all the sweetness of the world , and heavy makeup (irrespective of the age or profession of her role). then we have an overweight Renuka, making a comeback after marriage, doing ok in her 2 frame role.then there is a small side story involving his friend and her friend. and off course a wedding song with a sardaar cracking outdated jokes.
Performance wise salmaaan seems sincere(with the exception of a few frames).Preity jinta with some remnants of cadburys perk, does well. She even managed to appear beautiful. Then we had Bhoomika, did her work almost identically as she did in tere nam. A decent performance and screen friendly deeds, she will carry a lot of points home. We also had helen, full of life , she too had a khamoshi hangover.but a fine performance still.Last and the least , we also had Riya sen, who demonstrates why silence is a virtue( she is good only till she speaks).
Overall the film is just about watchable.Watch if you do not have any other things to do.Though the story line is forgettable, it has some decent performances. Salmaans is a good one, he has restrained himself for most of the duration. Preity looks great and has turned out a fine performance , and so has Bhoomika. The music though not half as good as tere naam, is okay.
Salmman while promoting the film, said that his brother in law has made a film which is better than him as a person. Atul has at least made a decent effort to live upto those expectations.
