I am A Disco Dancer, Blasting in 1982

The movie that brought Bappi lehari to a stardom and Mithun’s disco talent in front of the audience. If I remember anything about this movie was its dance song ’’I am a disco Dancer’’ and it was preety much played around in the 80s wherever you went. It was top 10 film of 1982 and song was probabaly top 10 amongst that era. Did fair at the box office and made enough to covered its expense of making. Mithun though was an overnight success. He was then lived upto his lable as the Poor Man’s Amitabh Bachan.

The movie is kind of murky at times but truly based on a one man’s rise to fame from poverty. Mithun Chakraborty will remain one of my most remembered actors, at sometimes you might hate him, since he made more B and C-grade movies than anybody else it kind of puts blemish on his profile. But nevertheless he balances out with some good perfomances in his earlier films. Disco Dancer is specially remembered for Mithun and Bappi Lehari. Bappi in the other end, was renowed but he really didn’t make an impact before this Movie came along.

The Direction and Editing and Screenplay were a little disappointment, could have been better if they afforded a little more time to throw some songs from the movie, Rajesh’s Khanna’s Cameo didn’t even work like a charm it was more of a stain. And Anita Raj’s Leading heroine just couldn’t liveup to her acting like she had in other movies in the 80s.

No wonder she faded so quickly, Om Puri’s Character as Mithun’s Manager works well. Otherwise this film is good to watch for only some moments of Mithun’s character ’Jimmy’ as well as mithun’s sheer presense. It was almost his real life story in this movie.
