A fan of sci-fis is sure to like D-9, though this is not like the typical sci-fis. Passionate movie watchers that like novelty and creativity will be extremely impressed with this movie. Also, you dont have to be a big fan of sci-fis to like this movie. The concept of the movie is absolutely new and original, which is what makes the movie stand apart from the regular sci-fis. The whole movie is shot in documentary style, but in a very interesting way.
Theres a spaceship which halts right above Johannesburg, apparently theres something wrong with the spaceship. Theres no sign of anything after the halt, so the humans break into the ship to find millions of starved and sick aliens, these aliens more or less look like the ones that come inPredator with tentacles and all, only theyre never invisible and have no super power. And, they are calledprawns by humans, because they look like prawns. These aliens are brought to a secured camp right below the spaceship and they live there and multiply to an extent, for 20 years, after which is the present. Heres when the real action in the movie begins. We have a guy from MNU(Multi Nations United), thats assigned the task of evacuating these *prawns *to another camp, miles away from the city. What happens thus, is the movie. I could go on about the movie a little more, but that might spoil the fun, if you intend to watch it.
The visual effects are good, but that isnt why you will watch the movie, they are there because theyve got to be there, for the type of movie.Theres lot of bloody violence which some might enjoy, I did. Id recommend this movie for every guy thats reallyguy. The movie reminded me ofThe hurt locker, though both the movies are way different, maybe because of the way it was shot, like from a handy-cam. Parts of the movie also reminded me of "Grindhouse: Planet Terror". Im guessing, fans of peter jacksons(Director of LOTR, King Kong) will enjoy this movie, because hes produced this and should be in the likes of his taste. In my opinion, this is one of the best alien movies I have seen, but mine is a very peculiar taste and not many share it.
