Diva Maharashtracha is a sister concern or a concerned sister of Goa Portuguesa the flagship restaurant of Dr Subhash Awchat.
It translates as The Light of Maharashtracha or a beacon, if not a mascot. It is situated at Mahim and is adjacent to the Goa Portuguesa
The door opens to the famous tutari of Maharashtra and the staff, dressed in smart ethnic apparel usher you in to the tables awaiting your presence. There is a light Maharashtrian music playing in the background which soothens your heart and mind and makes your appetite ready for the next course
The dishes are from the far flung interiors of Maharashtra to the more heady Chicken Saooji from Nagpur. The kolambi[prawn] hirva soup is awesome for starters. The non veg food is a shade better than the veg one but then this is a personal opinion and should not be a deterrent
The service is good and there is a Goa Portuguesa Cookbook for INR 795 available with a gold card which enables the patron to discounts at timely meals at all the three restaurants of Goa Portuguesa-Culture Curry[Southern]-Diva Maharashtracha
The ambiance is delectable and very well thought of. The spaces are well used excepting the arrangement of tables which can do with a better one. The coastal non veg fare is one of the best you can get. The prices range from INR 150 and above. The accessibility to Diva Maharashtracha by road is from the Cadell Road or from Shivaji Park proper or from the Lady Jamshedji Road Mahim
By railway one can get down at Matunga Road Station and take a minimum fare cab. All in all one can enjoy the visit. A bit high on the strings...one main course chicken saooji-one soup-one khamang kakdi salad -total damages of INR 746 including some govt tax of INR 130 odd
Happy Eating!
