Divergent is the first book of the young adult dystopian novel series written by Veronica Roth. Its a book about a girl named Tris/Beatrice who lives in a city where the entire city is divided into five different factions.
In a place where "faction comes before blood" Tris is a divergent, that is, she doesnt belong in any of the factions. So, what happens then? Would she be hunted? Would she spend her entire life scared and hiding what she truly is?
Being also a science fiction book, there are quite a number of plot twist and surprises that keeps the reader on their toes.
Also, being a young-adult series, the teenage characters are very well defined, very much three dimensional and if you are a teenager then relatable to a certain level.
The romance that is sprinkled all over the book only enhances the reading experience and makes the plot more likeable. There are also, other attributes like importance of friendship and family are well depicted by the author.
The language used by the author is pretty easy and understandable.
But at the same time, it felt as if the factions were Hogwarts houses taken on a totally different level. The same qualities are used just split into five categories instead of four.
At the end of the day, I will say its a good book, not great like some other books Ive read but good enough to re-visit it sometime in the future.
