Do you really need a laptop?

As technology improves and laptops become smaller and smaller, more people are found with them. As a common person, however, you need to ask yourself if it is really necessary to have one, or if a desktop would be better for you.

***Reasons to purchase a laptop computer***

*Travel a lot* - If you find that you are one of those people who travel all over the place and constantly need to bring your files with you, than I would suggest purchasing a notebook computer. They are easy to transport and you can usually find the perfect one for you. There are all sorts of variations, with size, weight, capacity, etc. so you can always find what you want. Presentations are also made easier because you can bring them on your laptop to a meeting and then just plug in a projector to your monitor output, whereas you might have had to email your whole presentation to everyone or something like that.

*Live in multiple places* - If you find that you live in, say, New York for half of the year, and Florida the other half, a laptop might be perfect for you. Some people prefer to bring their desktops’down, ’ but I find that that can always create problems with the bouncing around in the trunk and all.

*Need files from the office at your house* - If you need to work at your house on stuff from your office, a laptop is much easier than a desktop. One of the things that people have to do if they have a desktop is use a program called’PC-Anywhere.’ However, this program can be a pain because it takes awhile to even open up your files, let alone write and edit them.

***Reasons not to get one***

*If you are an avid gamer* - If you are one of those people who really enjoy playing games online, I would suggest getting a desktop and not a laptop because they can provide you with better graphics and such. Also, laptops cost more, so you can purchase a desktop and a better internet connection with your saved money, so then you can have a lower’ping’ on all of your games.

*If you are a hermit* - If you are a hermit and don’t go anywhere ever, then you don’t really need to worry about transporting your computer. i.e. portible computer doesn’t really matter. That’s about it for this one.

*If you want more power* - Laptops are behind by quite a bit in the race for cpu(processor) power. At the current time, you can purchase a 1.9 GigaHertz desktop, but only a 1.2 Gigahertz laptop. However, I have a 750 MegaHertz desktop(1000 MegaHertz equals 1 GigaHertz) and it is fast enough for everything that I do. I also have a 600 MegaHertz laptop that I am using right now, and I use it for just about everything. The desktop is easer to install things on, but the laptop is more convinient.
