Dominoes is a neat family game that can be enjoyed by all. It can bring hours and hours of fun and together time for your family.
A Domino is a flat rectangular block. Its long side is twice the length of its shorter side and it is divided by a line through the middle. This makes each Domino have two squares. Each square is marked with dots or is left blank. The modern set has 28 pieces. The 6/6 Domino is the highest pair. There are some sets that will contain higher sets such as the 9/9 or the 12/12, but the traditional set is the 6/6 set.
At the start of any game the dominoes are mixed face down. Each player then draws enough dominoes to give him or her the number needed to play the particular game that they have chosen. Any Dominoes that are not drawn remain as the stock.
There are several different Domino games which one might choose to play, but Draw Dominoes is the most popular of them and that is the game that I choose to write about today.
There can be as many as four person playing draw dominoes, but, you will find the best game to be two handed. When playing at two, each player will draw seven dominoes. When four are playing, they will draw only five.
The Play: The first player lays one of his or her dominoes in the center of the table. This domino has two open ends. The next player must then lay down a domino which will match the dots on one of the ends of the original Domino. The pattern which will be formed throughout play is called the layout. A domino may be placed against an open end to continue play, or a right angle turn may be played to keep them from running off of the table. A Domino that has the same number of dots on both sides is called a doublet and may be played crosswise to provide tow open ends where before there was only one.
The players take turns. You do this by going around the table clockwise. If a player does not have a Domino to match one of the open ends, he must draw from the stock pile until he or she is able to play. If all the Dominoes have been drawn and they still cannot play, they must then pass their turn to the next player.
The person who gets rid of all of his or her Dominoes
first wins the hand. If the hand should end in a block with all players unable to play all of their Dominoes, the player with the least amounts of dots on their Dominoes is the winner.
The Score:
The winner scores the total number of dots on all the Dominoes remaining in the hands of the loosing players. When the play ends in a block, there is no deduction for the Dominoes that are left in the winners hand. The first player to score 100 points, wins the game.
