This incident took place a few months back. This experience at a friends place has been a very er, frexperience.
My friend stays near a location where they are constructing a flyover.(Malleswaram circle) And you know the Dominos pledge - Free pizzas if not on time. Since seeing the ad, my friend was convinced this was the way to go, but he never got it free. Only once the manager called up to apologize for a traffic jam delay. The distance from the nearest Dominos outlet to his house is a km stretch. But thanks to the flyover under construction, it takes you around 15 mins just to reach the location by a circuitous route.
This time he was convinced. A gang of 6 guys meet up at his place. We decided to give Paresh Rawal competition in doing the free bit. Luckily that particular day, there was also a VIP inspection of the bridge in construction with a media channels filiming an MP doing his rounds. We called up and ordered 6 different pizzas and they agreed to fill the order. We were planning out dubious means of delaying the guy from reaching the flat. However, we decided against it and let the delivery boy.
- 25.32 mins. Still no delivery. We ring up the Dominos and they instead say that they have not received any order!
Whoa! After all the waiting. We decided to place it again and this time, the guy was at our place within 5 mins! Fortunately we had forgotten our previous order and had ordered another pizza the second round which was not included in the bill. The items billed were as per our first order! So in effect the guy was 20 mins late! Arguing ensued and we spoke to the manager. The manager stated that there was a mistake in entering the order and hence they rectified it when they noticed that the first order had indeed been given! However, as a courtesy, he was giving the pizzas free, but we would have to pay for the soft drinks in such a case. We decided to let matters rest.
Well Dominos is not comparable to a Pizzahut, but still, a free Pizza can do wonders to change that stance!
