Having decided to remake Don explicitly, this movie goes on to swipe scenes and styles left, right & centre from a number of other movies. Its the ultimate re-mix jam - watching it immerses you in deja vu - Mission Impossible, James Bond, Godfather, Sidney Sheldon .... I remember watching Amitabh in the original as a schoolboy. Even then I observed a subtle change in Don portrayed before and after the substitution - god knows how The Man managed it, and needless to say, Shah Rukh didnt make this happen. However, the twist in the tale accomodates that, and leaves one wondering if absence of talent was the mother of invention here. There are some very sloppy moments - how Vijay is convinced to play Don leaves you wondering if the directing or acting is worse. Kareena comes across as a blob of congealed fat wobbling across the screen in a gross disservice to the memory of Helen in the same role. Following the Don story was a given, but why sloppy remake of Hollywood scenes were needed to add spice to an Indian classic is a mystery - the mid air fight between Don and the white bloke over the parachute has Don hanging by his hands from the parachute - even James Bond had to slip on the parachute bag before opening it. Don killing an informer with a golf ball was another stolen scene. I went to see the movie because we got free tickets through my wifes office, and it was worth what we paid for it :-).
