Introduction
I have just returned after watching DON. It was a special premiere show. In the last few days we have seen tremendous hype about DON with practically every news channel covering it extensively. So does the movie live up to it’s hype? Does Farhan Akhtar deliver a great product? Is Shah Rukh Khan able to create a new and different DON? Read and you’ll all know.
The plot
The movie starts differently with DON on a drug deal which is not in the original. The story then follows the same pattern as the original. However Farhan Akhtar has introduced some intelligent and interesting twists in the story which make it fun to watch. I will not reveal the twists here coz those are USPs pf the movie.
Negatives
Sometimes in the first hour you feel you’ve seen it before and you automatically go into a comparison mode. I feel Frahan Akhtar should have treated the earlier portions a little different.
Also, the film seems to slow down a little post interval. This is a minor glitch though.
The background score in the original DON was pathbreaking. In this case it fails in comparison

A very tight movie barring a few slow minutes in the 2nd half
Interesting twists in the storyline that take you by surprise
An absolutely stunning climax
A thrilling car chase sequence, a stunning aero stunt and another stunt on the Petronas Towers leave you thrilled.
The locales are beautiful. Especially the one used for the climax
Songs are appropriately placed and are enjoyable
The action is realistic and intelligently used
Performances
The fringe characters do a good job
Om Puri is wasted in a role that anyone else coual have done
Isha Koppikar is ok
Priayanka Chopra has very little to do. She looks hot though
Arjun Rampal surprises with a restrained performance
Boman Irani gets a meaty role and digs into it with relish. His body language and facial expressions are great.
Finally the real clincher is Shah Rukh Khan. An absolutely wonderful performance. He excels both as the sauve, sophisticated DON and the earthy Vijay. He looks absolutely stunning and actually takes you away from comaprisons with Amitabh Bachchan. In the end its his take on DON and is quite different to Amitabh Bachchan’s.
Conclusion
Overall its a Kickass movie. High on style and also delivers on the substance.
Watch it and you’ll have a thrilling 2hrs 45minutes.
