*I love women who can kick a$**! It does not always have to be physical, but if it is - it certainly helps! Be it **Trinity in Matrix**, or **Rhona Mitra in Doomsday** - But don’t get me wrong, the **Monica Belluci’**s of the world also stand a chance - but I find something uniquely sexy and vibrant about the chick in latex with the right moves!
The movie starts in **April 2008** with **Holland **being infected with a virus called the **Reaper virus**(dont ask why. because I dont know). As the virus is highly contagious and without a cure, a **steel wall** is built around Holland. The area is **quarantined by Europe**(mainly **Britan**) and the people there are left to die. A little girl is rescued by the soldiers on pleas from a mother and a soldier vacats his place in a rescue chopper for the girl as she has been severely injured in the eye.(Glitch 1 here)
Fast forward to the year **2035** and **Rhona Mitra **is** Eden Sinclair **or** Major Eden Sinclair** with a military general - who rubs shoulders with the PM - for a surrogate dad! She is a calculative, hardened, efficient soldier in the army who also is easy on the eyes - pun intended. watch the movie to get the joke.
At the same time, **Britan, ** with too many people, has the problems faced by the third world countries of today. A teeming population, a corrupt Government facing re-election, shortage of food and water! In the midst of all this chaos, **the deadly virus resurfaces in London**!
*Disaster**! People are dying left right and center. there is very less hope of survival when a satellite that monitors Holland catches people movement - the very people left to die in the country have somehow managed to outlive the virus - the cure to which is now needed by the people who left them there to die! Fate sure has a twisted mind!
A team is assembled and sent behind the steel walls which are now patrolled by automatic weapons to prevent **any escapees from attempting an escape**(brilliant sentence, isnt it:P) But left to die, and facing a shortage of food, the people have turned into cannibals!(Glitch 2 here)
*Major Eden’s** team is no match for these **death-metal** types who sport **human skulls** on their vehicles, **tattoos** all over their body, **piercings** in various places and burst into a **ritualistic rock concert** before roasting people alive to feed on them.
"**Are you hungry? have a piece of your friend**" tells a cannibal survivor to a captured **Eden** in a jail cell while throwing her a plate of roasted human meat.(Glitch 3 here)
While this is happening, the PM of Britan catches the virus when an infected citizen breaches his HQ. With the PM indisposed, the Vice PM(?) assumes charge and takes hold of the power - but he has a different agenda - Like the Sentinel of Matrix, he thinks the virus is an answer and the perfect solution to weeding the teeming population so "**we can get some breathing room. When half the people are dead, I will come with a cure(from Holland) and be a Messiah.**"
Time for questions!
Will Eden escape the jail cell?
Will she find the cure to the deadly virus from the deadly cannibals?
Will the VPM succeed in his sinister plan to let people die for political gains?

*Analysis** - with a disclaimer: I had a **beer** while watching the movie:P
The movie is an average movie with a story that runs amok somewhere in the middle of the movie. The promos shown were quite exciting, but they showed only half of what the movie held. This is where the **movie lost much of its audience** as I could see only see **die-hard rock-n-roll enthusiasts** in the movie hall. As there were other parts to the movie that came as a surprise to these die-hard fans, they were left a little disappointed as well. The only time a fellow cine-goer girl-dressed-in-goth-makeup squealed in delight was at the sight of a **Bentley** that fit more in downtown NY than in the middle of Holland in the quarantined zone!
I went to see a movie similar to **Mad-Max** in terms of **cult following** - Instead, I got a **bhel-puri** mix of **Matrix**, **Lord of the rings**(without the magic), **Gladiator** and **MI**(virus cure). Now that mixture can be a tasty mix, but the movie makers did not do full justice to it and added their own "tadka" to it which changed the taste completely and **was hard to swallow even after the beer**.
Inspite of this, **I recommed the movie** to **die-hard action fans** as the action scenes and the **bike chases** are **worth watching** along with the **rock-n-roll** ensemble - but all this has to be taken with some grains of salt(Ipsi, you can learn action direction from this one:P) The **heavy metal culture and fetishes** of these folks have been shown quite tastefully and I got the feel that **the movie makers knew this culture quite well**.
The characters have all performed well. **The movie has a comic book appeal to it** - which is good, because if it were shown in the same style as Matrix(read realistic), it would have further bombed. With Matrix you felt you were **in** the movie. with **Doomsday**, you feel you are watching a movie, but at times, **you want to be in it**!
*Rhona Mitra **does an above average job as **Eden Sinclair**. Her dark persona shines on the screen as she is tormented by memories of a disturbed and parentless childhood - this can be seen quite nicely in her candour. I felt happy with the movie as I had gone to see **a latex clad babe kicking a$** and I was more than satisfied with what I saw in her - because not only does she kicks a$**, she is shown to make the right choices and to make ample use of her grey cells**, even in a cunning way when needed!
Watch it once - have a beer and u’ll like it even more - no need to dress in Goth, because then you’ll be disappointed! Go to enjoy the action and you will be satiated. Go to get **just a taste** of heavy metal and the culture and you will be thrilled.
*A deep, dark, complex character that fights for righteousness** - Ahh! **I see my dream girl in Eden Sinclair**! Did you ask why? Because the only thing more sexy than an a$-kicking chick in latex is one who can **think on her feet** and **make the right choices too**!
