Dor -A Poignant Original Triumph

I’ll begin by saying I have never felt compelled to write a "bollywood" movie review, that is until now, that is because of "Dor". After watching this movie I felt like I wanted to tell the whole world to see this movie. "It’s one of them rare gems to come from Hindi Cinema". I expect this film will not do too well commercially due to it’s relatively unknown cast & low publicity.

The plot along with the vision of this movie is truly unque. The movie is about the coming together of two unconnected women living miles apart who through a tragedy in their lives have to come to a difficult compromise. For me the premise of what this movie offered was such a relief from having to sit through Amitabh Bachan performing plastic dances in glamorous outfits & totally fabricated badly acted family dramas.

"Don’t get me wrong, Dor is glamarous but stylishly glamarous & each scene is like watching an oil painting with beautifully resonant landscapes & warm colours, add to this a soulful poignant heartwarming beautiful soundtrack & great performances, well you have a modern day classic.

Ayesha Takia who plays Meera is simply sensational, her portrayal of a greiving conforming widow is heartfelt & heartbreaking. Gul Panang is also impressive if a bit reserved, & Shreyas Telpade adds energy & quirkiness to the film. The movie moves at a pace which is necessary to set the right ambience for this movie, it never feels laboured at anytime because even if there is nothing happening there is so much for the eye to feast on & the ears to soak in. There are scenes that will stay with you after you have watched this movie like Ayesha who goes against the grain of a greiving Rajistani widow by dancing to "You are my sonia" something she shared with her departed husband." Beautiful, Poignant, Touching & Totally fulfulling I urge you to see this movie". review by Vajant Suwali from Leeds, England
