Nagesh Kukunoor is known for his different films, so his music should be different too, its different but to a limited extent only...
I have not seen this movie because you must listen music in relation to the movie, its story, but a great music is one which crosses boundaries of movie story, off course the music director is at constraint to movie line, but still he must try to make great compositions as once a great classical musician quoted in an interview saying "I liked the music of HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM immensely, but I have not seen the movie".Such should be the music.Of course its hard to make good music, but then people like Ismail Darbar are also born with Gods Gift..of making great music.
I liked two songs in DOR which are -
1.Yeh Honsla...by Shafqat Amanat Ali and Salim Merchant, both names are new to me, but they have done great job , the expression is great. It has a sad version too.
2.Imaan ka asar...by Shreya Ghoshal and Sunidhi Chauhan, possibly for two heroines Ayesha Takia and Gul Panag. This song is also good, singing in a celebratory mood.
I found a peculiarty in this album that at least three songs have same mukhda as some old songs, they invariably even if you dont want bring to your memory, memories of these old songs. These songs are-
1.Kesariya balam...by Karsan Sagathia, this song is also in movie LEKIN in female voice. No wonder Karsan has done his best, but it still brings memories of Hema Malini..
2.Piya ghar aaya...by Pratichee. This song shares some of its opening lyrics with much famed Madhuri Dixits raunchy numberpiya ghar aaya o ramji".Not only this song reminiscences us of Madhuri, but also of Smita Patil who starred in much acclaimed MANTHAN and one of its song contained almost same feel , music and mood, but not https://lyrics.I think it has something to do the folk music of that area.
3.Allah hu allah hu...by Salim. This song with opening lyrics allah hu allah hu...has appeared in at least two films recently, one of them sung by Adnan Sami, But of course this song is good.I am not sure who is this Salim, may be he is one of the music directors duo Salim Suleiman who gave music of this movie.
There is a pure classical piece in this album called Expression of love ...by Trilok Gurtu which is a absolute treat to the ears. Its sombre and serene.
All in all , its good enough...to hear.
Thanks for reading my review.
