This is one of those trendy eateries whichve sprung up all over Bombay, of late. The Dosa Diner tries to revolutionise regular South Indian fare by experimenting, innovating, and building upon traditional recipes. You have the usual assortment of idlis, vadas, appams, and of course dosas, which go with the not-so-usual paneer, babycorn, and mushroom fillings amongst other things.
The results couldve been - SHOULD have been - fabulous. Unfortunately enough, the food is a bit insipid. The rasam is totally hot, the idlis are good enough (soft and fluffy), and even the vadas are not so bad, but hey, the name of this place is Dosa Diner and the dosas should be totally awesome, right? Well, they arent! :-( The dosas simply do not taste good, period. We tried experimenting with paneer / mushroom / babycorn fillings, and they just tasted like... so much mush. Even the sambhar was not good at all. Dull, uninspiring, very disappointing :-(
The place is fairly inexpensive. You can easily have your fill and yet not end up spending more than 100 bucks per person, which is quite reasonable in my opinion. Plus, the service is quite OK, so if you are in a hurry, you dont have to fret and fume for 30 minutes before being served...
A very very average experience, but do go there once and see if you find something you really like. And yes, you might want to try the rasam there, for thats one thing I really liked there! For the rest, Ill stick to home-made dosas and idlis...
