First impression: “Dostana”
First reaction after watching this movie is what was that? Why they made film like this? I guess they want to try something new and they tried out the GAY CONCEPT. So are they successful? Well, from my point of view, they failed.
Story: Story is ordinary. Boys meet a beautiful girl. They become friends and some Dostana happens, some beautiful romantic moments. Then boys fall in love with that girl, but hey, girl loves his boss. Now they all try for that girl. And girl says yes to one guy and lives happily from then onwards.
But new thing is that gay angle. To get one good home to stay, Abhishek and John has to act like they are Gay and than only it becomes possible for them to stay in that home and that too with gorgeous Priyanka Chopra. Now Abhishek and John have to tell no. of wrong stories to act like Gay and that create laughter riot.
Pros and cons of this movie: In one statement: first half is the strength and second half is the weakness of this film.
First half is really very funny and USP of this film. Nonstop package of entertainment. In fact most of the scenes are funny. Some of them are: Love story of Abhi and John. Abhshek’s maa accepts that his son is gay and accepts John as Abhi’s partner and song maa ka ladla. Very entertaining.
Second half is long and boring. But I guess girls will love dates of Abhishek and Priyanka and John and Priyanka, which can happen only in films. It is like an ideal date. Script is very loose and you will realize this in second half and movie will become boring and “The End” is really BAKWAS. You will think what is this movie all about? It is not about Gay community. It is not about friendship. It is not about love story. It is not about anything. It just uses gay stuff and gives some funny scenes. Apart from that every thing about this film is not convincing and half heartedly.
The look of this film is very fresh and Priyanka and John look really hot. Cast performance is really strong point of this movie. All the actors have done well in this movie and music is also good but not very good.
Who should watch and who should not watch this movie?
If you are free, young, want some entertainment, than go for this one. Don’t go with family, particularly with conservative people, because 60% of this film is about gay stuff. You can go with your girlfriend/boyfriend. And if you are Gay, then I guess, you can go for this one.
If you are looking for good story with good message and strong direction, than don’t go for this one.
Overall my rating is 3/5. (2.5/2.5 for first half and 0.5/2.5 for second half).
