Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, is a portrait of the one of the greatest social reformer of modern India. Set between 1901- 1956, the film portrays Ambedkar’s life as a reformer, but the portrayal of his personality is overwhelming, like a spark that bursts into raging fire by the end of the film. Ambedkar was the first graduate of his community, the untouchables.
Whilst studying law in New York, he observed Afro-Americans, his teachers who supported Human Rights and the inclusion of the 14th Amendment in the US Constitution granting rights to African-Americans, and this roused the reformer in him. On his return to India Ambedkar waged a social battle against the Upper Caste Hindus.
Ambedkar and Gandhi clash in their ideologies. Yet Gandhi admires Ambedkar and recommends that Ambedkar be appointed the first Law Minister in Prime Minister, Nehrus rule. Dr.Ambedkar is credited with writing India’s first constitution.
He publicly renounces Hinduism and adopts Buddhism.
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar by Jabbar Patel is a good historical film. intelligent, straight, and unbiased. The film is well researched - in its settings, costumes, makeup, and locations as well as in information.
The ideological confrontations between Gandhi and Ambedkar have been picturised superbly the film also comes up aces in the acting department. The late Mohan Gokhale as Gandhi and Mammootty as Ambedkar, have given stunning performance.
This film should not be missed for anything.
