My boyfriend was suffering from male pattern baldness. Although I was totally against this, he decided meet a representative from Dr. Batra’s(and I use the word "Dr" loosely) clinic in Bangalore. During the consultation the examining doctor told my boyfriend that he could be cured of his problem by having some homeopathic pills twice a day and applying some medicated oil(mixed with olive oil) on his scalp. The doctor was well spoken, and in hindsight, he was a better sales person than a doctor.
This was 2002, and how I wish there were so many negative ratings on MS then. My boyfriend was in two minds, and in the end after another consultation with the doctor, he agreed to take the first years treatment. They also offered him laser sessions twice a month - this was to improve his scalp condition.
I know for a fact that my boyfriend prodigiously consumed those tablets, and applied the oil. He even missed out on personal time on weekends to meet the doctor for his laser treatment. A year went by - no change of situation other than the fact that Dr.Salesman was transferred, and so was the person who replaced him. We have always believed in homeopathy and we know that the key to the science is the patient history. We knew something was wrong when the replacements never asked any questions. When inquired they said that they had been provided all required information from the earlier doctor. We foolishly believed them.
As we were approaching the end of the first year, we were called for another supervision by a head doctor(another salesman). This guy went on to say how we had made good progress and by renewing the course for another year/or two, my boyfriend would have a thick mat of hair. This time around, we saw through the fraud, and opted out.
Times were tough for us then - we had just graduated and were job hunting. I only agreed for my boyfriend to take this treatment because I knew he needed a boost of morale. Dr. Batra’s clinic robbed us of some much needed money - but that is not the worst of it.
After my boyfriend started medication, I noticed a gradual decline in his sexual drive. By the end of the year he was totally unable to perform. On meeting with specialists we were informed that we were not the first patients from Dr. Batra’s approaching them with this problem. It appears that the oils and the medication given to my boyfriend had chemicals which were reducing the testosterone in his system. A reduction of testosterone does aid follicle growth, but has nasty side effects including low sex drive, erectile dysfunction, mood problems, fatigue, and sleep disturbances. My boyfriend had to undergo further treatment to get back to the correct testosterone level.
Guys, this pain and frustration is not worth the mane on your head. Girls dig guys who are balding naturally. Say no to quacks like Dr. B and others - they are exploiting our populace with false promises, abusing our hope.
