Dr. Pepper....Probably unknown to those of you outside the United States.
It all began in Texas, USA many years ago.
Dr. Pepper is a very sweet, sort of cherry coke. With less carbonation.
It contains sugar and fructose as sweeteners, and a secret combination of ingredients to make for a unique taste sensation! Actually, I really do like this better than Coke, and thats saying a lot!
When I lived in Texas, my friends all used to drink Dr. Pepper and I was the outcast drinking my Coke. They began chiding me to taste it, until one day I did and I was hooked.
It was sweeter than my coke, but had that cola type of taste, with a hint of maybe cherry flavoring. The carbonation wasnt as strong, and if you let it sit out for a few minutes, the carbonation was all but gone. But it was sooooooo good!
I WAS HOOKED! Instead of my coke for breakfast (dont laugh...I dont drink coffee!), I had a Dr. Pepper. Then I had one later in the morning for another jolt of caffeine.
And so the saga began of my addiction to Dr. Pepper. Soon I couldnt have enough. I was buying it in the cans, 6 for $2.89, in the 2 litre bottle $1.39...Id drink it morning noon and night.
Some of my friends would even drink it warm in the winter months. I tried that once, and only once. I did not like it at all. But when pressed, I will drink it at room temperature.
It must be that special flavor they add to it to give it the unique taste that hooks you. Its so different, yet so familiar.
My sister started kidding me after a while and said Id eat Dr. Pepper soup if someone served it to me. (well, I wouldnt go that far!)
The ingredients, as listed, are as follows: carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, sugar, caramel coloring, phosphoric acid, natural flavors, caffeine and preservatives. (Just what are those natural flavors??)
