Dress Appropriately ! Impress the Interviewer

Dressing up for an interview is very important! After all your hard work, you have made it up to the interview! Is it worth losing because of your wrong choice of dress ? Ofcourse not!

Both men and women should look very professional and conservative for an interview. Even this dressing up for an interview depends on the job you are going to be interviewed for!

If you are interviewed for work in a fast food location like KFC or McDonalds , you can consider wearing a casual dress. But, if it is for an office or company, you have to really take some effort in dressing to match the prospective job.

Keep this in mind. The dress you wear should be comfortable, clean and neat. You can keep the dress you’re going to wear washed and ironed atleast two days earlier to the interview so that you don’t have to worry about it on the interview day.

Men can consider wearing light colored trousers, white full-sleeved shirt & a tie and a dark suit. It gives you a neater, smarter look! A clean shave is a must.Your hair should be neatly groomed. You can carry a brief case to keep your resume, cover letter and other portfolio to support your qualifications and work experience. You should never wear jeans while going for an interview. You can wear black or brown shoes to match your suit and same colored socks. Take some trouble to polish your shoes before wearing for the interview.

For women, there are many kinds of dress to choose from! They can wear Suits, Salwar Kameez or Sarees , whatever they are comfortable with.It will be good to do some kind of research about company you are going for interview to find out what type of dress is worn by other female employees. That will give you an idea! But, don’t ever wear jeans.

In Canada, according to the dress code existing here in most of the companies, people don’t wear jeans or T - Shirt to work place. I cannot even dream of approaching an employer with jeans& T-shirt. Here, women are expected to wear only pant and shirt or blouse or skirts for work.

Next, women have to be very careful with their make up. If you are so used to it, atleast on interview day , it should be in low-key! Avoid using too much perfume. Same applies as regards wearing jewellery. Just a chain, a bracelet or a bangle and your ear rings are more than enough! Let your hair style be simple as well as impressive! Be sure to keep your shoes polished and neat. You shouldn’t wear high-heeled shoes.

Now you are ready, very professionally & conservatively dressed up for the interview! Don’t forget to stand tall! When the interviewer sees you with excellent posture, he approaches you in a positive way.

Smile! A smile gives the impression that all is well. Wouldn’t you rather see someone smiling?

Look your interviewer directly in the eye. That is, you should have proper eye contact with him. It makes the interviewer know that he has your complete attention.

Look confident and face your interview with confidence! Good Luck !
