Dressing for Success

When you dress for an interview there are key areas that can either make it or break it for you regarding your appearance.

Hair

Hair should be well groomed, clean and styled in a neat style.  If you are going for a job interview in a video store or some other kind of place of business that is not formal or office attire then the hair styles that offer different colors on each part of the head might not matter.

But if you are going to a interview with a big firm or company, then I doubt seriously that the aforementioned hair style is going to impress your perspective employer at all.  So keep in mind what style of hair to wear.

Face

If you are a male, then make sure you shave before you go.  Make sure to trim your mustache or beard and sideburns so that they are not frazzled looking.

Women need to watch the amount of make-up they apply.  Nothing is wrong with accenting features about your face that you feel are appealing, however, if you use cosmetics incorrectly or to heavy it can knock off points  so make sure you keep your make-up to a minimum.

Cologne and Perfumes

While the scent of your perfume or aftershave may help make you feel good about your appearance as well as offer confidence it might not agree with the nose of the person that is doing the interviewing.  So keep it light.

Clothes

Even if you have the best resume ever made, and all the above things done, if your cloths are not neat, clean and appropriate for the job you are interviewing for, then the other is in vain.

Shoes

Make sure your shoes are also clean and neat and not full of scuff or holes.  My grandfather used to say “Shoes make the man.”  To some degree, he may have been correct.

Lastly

Wear your smile!  Make sure to be friendly, and well mannered.  Remember, body language is a part of  the over all presentation.  You speak volumes with your body language, so stand tall and I wish you the best of luck!
