The movie lies on a wafer thin and totally defective screenplay that is weakly narrated. A very important aspect of such flicks is in fact the characterisation and Drona falls short here too. A back-story that explains the circumstances by which the character acquires his abilities and motivation for becoming a superhero is hasty and dire. So is the portrayal of the characters, the power and the repercussion of both the good and bad is not defined. Our super hero here doesnt have a strong story to back-up his physical prowess nor does he have an equally magnificent evil to fight with, here the villain is funny and less daunting. Another reason why the movie fails to grab your attention is the lack of connection and continuity between two scenes. And the list is endless.
The movie is drags and songs just dont fit anywhere into the reel and have no significance whatsoever. Despite the hundreds of top notch special effects and various Indian martial art forms, Drona clearly lacks soul to be a superhero / fantasy film. Taking its root from Indian mythology, it did have the scope and the command to become a great superhero but unfortunately disappoints. Special effects were wonderful but lost its charm in this irrational film.
Surprisingly enough, Abhishek Bachchan seems to lack the personality to carry the image of a superhero and for any Abhishek Bachchan fan like me, its a bit too painful to digest this. The only saving grace of the movie could have been Kay Kay Menon, but he too is wasted in this clownish evil role.
The only likeable factors in the movie are its special effects, costumes and the sets, especially that of Raazpur, which is truly unique.
In short, to be very honest, Drona is undoubtedly one of the worst movies ever made.
