A consignment was sent to me on Friday from Munnar, Kerala, at a substantially higher cost compared to other courier companies. I expected delivery in Mumbai by Monday latest. However as it was not delivered, I checked the tracking number on DTDC website today and saw that it was out for delivery. I therefore called DTDC Fort office and was shocked to be told by one Reshma that the packet was delivered yesterday at around 1pm. She could not tell me to whom it was delivered and asked me to call after 12noon. I tried to make a complaint to DTDC through their website feedback, but it did not work. Frantic, I then called DTDC local office in my area and spoke to one Ashok.
After I told him the problem and gave him the consignment number, he disconnected on me three times and I was only able to get through to him after half an hour. At this time, he said it was delivered somewhere else but promised to deliver to me within fifteen minutes. When the delivery boy came to my office, I asked him to whom it was delivered, he said to someone else close by. When I asked why DTDC did not bother to phone me when my numbers were prominently displayed on the packet, he had no answer. Fortunately the goods were intact as the packet had not been opened. However, anything could have happened if it had been wrongly delivered to some unscrupulous person. DTDC is very expensive and the least one can expect is some attention to detail which even ordinary couriers such as Professional provide for a much lower rate. Never again.
I advise everyone not to use DTDC. Slipshod inefficient service and thoroughly unprofessional. Not even a hint of an apology was offered and both Reshma and Ashok were not rude but not polite either. If I had not checked the website today, God knows what would be the fate of my parcel.
