Aapki Sewa mein Janhit mein Jaari.
Ok, I am late by a week, but I came and I came to tell you about a good movie, watchable once for sure, and its Rohan Sippys Dum Maaro Dum, starring Abhishek Bachchan, Rana Duggubati, Prateik Babbar, Aditya Pancholi, Bipasha Basu, Govind Namdeo and Muzammil S.Qureshi. Wonderful background score, witty dialogues, awkward camera angles, and the characterization stands tall, and the negative point be the dragged 2nd half and the climax.
Story starts with a guy named Lorry (Prateik Babbar), whose girlfriend Taani (Anaitha Nair) is going to US for further studies, and he cannot go since he didnt have sufficient money, and hence he falls in a drug business in Goa, first assignment being as a Drug Carrier, and to take drug to US. But his bad luck and a superhit stylo ACP Vishnu Kamath (Abhishek Bachchan) comes in way, as he was appointed back to the job by Goas CM (Bugs Bhargava), and given every power to clean-up Goa from drugs mafia. And in the reel came many characters, like the singer Joki (Rana Duggubati), who just want to enjoy the life, but the right way, his ex-girlfriend Zoe (Bipasha Basu), who is now mistress of Biggest Indian drug mafia Lorsa Biscuita (Aditya Pancholi), ACPs team most-promising "sh*t job" inspector Mercy (Muzammil S. Qureshi) and promising aged inspector Rane (Govind Namdeo).
One of the good-made Hindi movie, made after a long time, and I really loved it, the presentation was so wacky, it gives a feel of old-time drug expeditions. Execution of the whole plot was perfect, and the plot plus the ultimate suspense, maintained till the end of the film, is maintained perfectly. I forgot the mystery character named Michael Barbosa (Pirate of the caribbean naming convention :P) Its Shridhar Raghavan who wrote the beautiful mystery. Wonderful execution and direction by Rohan Sippy, who has earlier given us a good one-time watch movie like Bluffmaster. Wonderful characterization stands tall, with good acting by the whole cast altogether. The best character I liked is of singer Joki, who stays till end, and who knows the meaning of losing and just want to follow the right way of enjoying. Next best character I liked is Inspector Mercy, who have been called by ACP to clear the gutter (manhole), and every-time he refers it as a sh*t job. The getup of Abhishek Bachchan was also good, with long drop-down moustaches.
Rest characters are also wonderfully thought, and everybody did justice to their role, somehow, Rana missed a few scenes, he needs improvement, and in few scenes, Abhishek looked copycat-Amitabh Bachchan. Witty dialogues are there to support the movie, alongwith tight editing (Aarif Sheikh) in first-half, which dragged to loose ends in second-half. Dialogues like - When Abhisheks character told the Goa CM about taking the new assignment of cleaning, "Ye apne municipality bhaiyo se hi seekha hai, saale do-teen paig laga ke hi gutter mein utarte hain (I learnt it from Municipality guys, they entered the manhole only after taking 2-3 pegs of alcohol)" Songs are well supported, alongwith suited background score. Music is given by Pritam and lyrics are penned by Jaideep Sahni. Except the title song lyrics, other song lyrics are good. Best track I liked are - "Gaye tum Gaye ho Kyon" sung by Papan, and other were "Thayn Thayn" sung by Abhishek Bachchan, Earl and Ayush Phukan. It was penned, and shot in the same way of Rohans earlier film Bluffmasters song "Ek main aur ek tu hai". Ofcourse I loved the title track as well. 2nd half of the movie plus climax dragged a bit more, just to show the class of movie filming of the director. Rest is fine, and falls in place. Some worth mentioning scenes are-
The song sequence shot between Lorry and Taani, of their separation
Introduction of ACP Kamath
His call letter and meeting with Goa CM
His picking up of team, and their dialogues
The chases
Saving Lorry from killers
The mystery surrounding Michael Barbosa
Revealing of truth by ACP and Joki
This season is for mystery thrillers, and this one is good one for sure, and youll certainly like the movie if you love thrillers. My rating 3.5/5.
"Aye sahiba, Goa aane ka, khaane ka, peene ka, mast chill maarne ka, lekin dum, dum bilkul nahi maarne ka (Hey Mister, Come to Goa, eat, drink, full enjoy, but drugs, dont do drugs)."
