A Small Town Tale with Big Laughs

When I settled down to watch Dupahiya, the new Amazon Prime release, I was brimming with excitement and anticipation. Ever since the trailer release, everyone has been talking about the show. Based in the imaginary village of Dhadakpur, the "Belgium of Bihar, " Dupahiya is a comedy-drama series that captures the tumultuous life of a family as they go through the misadventure of a stolen treasured motorbike, a wedding present, days before the wedding. The original concept of the series left me binge-watching all the episodes in one sitting!

The tale of Dupahiya is about the Jha family and their mission to get back the stolen motorbike, which was a wedding gift for the bride, Roshni. Dhadakpur village is on the verge of completing 25 years of living without crime, and this unexpected theft upsets the whole scenario. The family, headed by Banwari Jha(Gajraj Rao), goes on a crazy ride to get the bike back, with a series of unexpected and funny turns in between. The story just got more interesting with each episode, keeping me wondering what’s next. All the characters in this show have a heartwarming part to play. It’s certainly a feel-good show.

One of the highlights of Dupahiya is how it captures the experience of living in a small town in India. The show nicely captures the quirkiness and beauty of rural India, and the show is relatable and lovable as a result. The village of Dhadakpur is like a character, and something or the other happens each day. The producers of the show have made great use of merging humor and sentiment, coming up with a narrative that is equally entertaining and sentimental. The Dupahiya storyline is nicely balanced. There are hardly any dull moments in the whole series. There are moments when the story seems somewhat extended, especially with the middle episodes. The entertaining storyline and the characters of the show still make it worth while despite this.

You cannot miss the performances in Dupahiya. Gajraj Rao, as Banwari Jha, brings his signature charm and wit to the role, making his character both lovable and relatable. Renuka Shahane also shines, bringing warmth and depth to her character. The entire supporting cast of Bhuvan Arora and Shivani Raghuvanshi also plays well. On-screen chemistry between all the cast is terrific and we never get any boring scenes. Everyone seemed well adjusted to the humble, village environment and the conversations came across as real.

So, should you watch it? If you want to watch a light-hearted, entertaining show that will give you a glimpse of small-town India, Dupahiya is worth your time. With plenty of heartwarming and laugh-out-loud moments, the series is ideal for a relaxing weekend binge watching. The characters are fantastic and the actors are perfect for their roles. I was convinced to watch the series after seeing Gajraj Rao’s character in the trailer, and he is truly a star! A must-watch for everyone.
