~Migraine Home Treatment~

I have been suffering from Migraine headaches for twenty-seven years.  I have an average of two major migraines a year, they occurred more often during pregnancy and became worse after the birth of my children.

Home Treatment of Migraines

Know your trigger, which is what can bring on a migraine and avoid them if at all possible. Some of those triggers can be smells, sounds, light, colors, food, stress and type of activity you do.

Go to bed, couch or somewhere you can lay down and relax.  The room should be dark and quiet.  Begin relaxation techniques starting at your head and working down to your feet.

Use an ice pack or cool cloth on your forehead, behind your neck or across your eyes.

Sleeping also helps to relieve the tension. Take Aspirin, Tylenol or Ibuprophen. Try to stay away from heavy narcotics, as they are only a temporary relief. Usually it dulls the pain and does not let you effectively relieve the pain.

Beware of over the counter treatments for headaches, they may make the headache worse rather than better.

It has been said that caffeine and chocolate induce a migraine. I beg to differ.  If this were so then why does the leading prescription medication Cafergot contain massive quantities of caffeine?  I suggest a cup of black coffee to help relieve some of the migraine symptoms.

I hope that these home treatments help you as much as they do me.  I am not a physician, and suggest that you check with your doctor before starting any new type of treatment whether it is home remedies or over the counter remedies
