EGroups.com is now YahooGroups.Com. Yeah, you guess it right, EGroups has been bought over by Yahoo! and is now called YahooGroups.Com. Being bought over (although its called a merger!) by the world leading portal clearly signifies the potential and popularity of EGroups!
YahooGroups.Com, lets you start, run and maintain your own online group of family, friends and associates through a website and email group. You dont need to know HTML to create your own site. Yahoo! Groups offer a convenient way to connect with others who share the same interests and ideas. We have hundreds of thousands of email groups that you can join in an easy-to-use, privacy-protected, and spam-protected environment. You can interact with the Yahoo! Groups service at our web site or through any email program.
I am sure, you have a yahoo id. well, you can use the same id in Yahoo! Groups. There are 2 things you can do. Either start your own group or join existing groups. Lets start of the second option.
Lets say, you are starting to learn HTML. A book might help you in getting all the basics, but when you come across a doubt/query, the book might fail to answer. Solution? Join one of the many Yahoo Groups! on HTML like webdesign, html-on-the-web, htmlgold (you will find many!). These groups are the one, I am part off, and take it from me, the collective knowledge pool and work experience is simply great. Once you are part of the group, send your query to the groupname@yahoogroups.com and it goes to everyone in the group. You will then find comments from other members and in most cases, you will find the solution too! Even you dont get the complete solution, the comments will surely take you in the direction of the solution. Think of a subject and you will find a Yahoo! Group on that subject. A simple search on your fave subject at Yahoo! Group justify my statement.
Lets talk of starting your own group. Lets say you finished your graduation and all your friends are go into their own careers. Now, it becomes really tough to keep in touch. Solution? Start a Yahoo! Group for your class. Now, I started a group called MechBoyZ for all my engineering classmates to interact. We are now in different places, but still are able to keep in touch!
This is the basic essence of the service offered Yahoo! Groups. This is accompanied by a host of other features which you will cherish. Not asking too much from me, I suggest, you try it for yourself!
