A brief on this movie- Ek Ajnabee----Watchable!

Ek Ajnabee--watchable

The past few weeks have been very bad for the millions of big B ever since the news of his “now famous” illness and the subsequent operation that he underwent.

Let me not bore you by saying about the razor sharp precision with which Big B goes about donning various roles that he plays these days. First of all, the director of this film Mr. Apoorva Lakhia deserves special mention for the racy-pacy flick made by him.

The coal eyed Bachchan who famously says his name “mein Vijay Dinanath Chauhan” in the film Agneepath seems to have been rediscovered by Apoorva in this movie and has made a movie that is capable of getting the initial draw that is very much needed to sustain a movie. Apoorva though fails to get the grip of the whole movie in the second half when the movie becomes a touch slower as compared to the first half.

These days no Bollywood movie is complete without its share of cut copy and paste work and the makers of the movie very conveniently dub it as “inspired by the movie”. So, I would say that this movie is “inspired by the Hollywood movie Man of fire, the 2004 flick that starred Densel Washington”.

Story

Ek Ajnabee tells us the story of a retired Army Colonel Mr. Suryaveer Singh played by Big B himself who is assigned the task of protecting a child in Bangkok by Arjun Rampal (who essays the role of Shekhar in this movie).

Well, the child in question is played by newcomer Rucha Vaidya who just steals the show competing with Big B in each and every frame. Rucha plays the daughter of millionaire parents (played by Ms. Gracious Perizaad Zorabian and Vikram Chatwal).

This movie brings to fore the kidnapping industry that is very prominent in Thailand. Big B has a questionable past where he had killed two innocent children by accident and that seems to have had its effect on him as drowns himself in liquor day in day out.

Raj Zutshi who plays the gangster in this movie does a brilliant job and manages to kidnap the girl. The rest of the movie is all about big B going all the way to get the girl back safely in the hands of her parents.

Plus points in this movie

Story wise, this movie has nothing to offer but we have seen in the past that “it is the treatment that matters and not the story”. Even the best of stories fail to appeal to the audience if the treatment is not proper. .

I seem to have been highly impressed by Apoorva’s direction this time and am saying this for the nth time in this review as he has improved drastically after his last directorial venture Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost ( anyone remembered that??).

Music is another plus point in this movie and has already started climbing the charts and Arjun Rampal looks awesome in the item number.

Final Word

One only hopes that this movie augers well with the audience and though another copy from a movie made in the west, I would still expect you guys to watch it once!!

Give it a try!! Won’t be a waste!! That’s my take!
