Ek Chhota sa review !

Through a few turn of events - there are wheels with in wheels - I ended up watching ’’First Day First Show’’ of this flick this Friday. I’ll consider my self lucky for reasons more than one as it seems the Court order is out to stop the screening of the movie.

Well to begin with there is a lot to say about this movie and am having difficulty organizing the logical sequence. But what the heck ... let me begin one by one.

0 Cast and crew(seems I missed this part completely in the first writing grin)

Aditya Seal(new kid), Manisha Koirala, Saroj Bhargav, Ranvir Shorey(Arey apna VJ Ranvir !)

Director - Shashilal Nair

Despite being asked for a storyline synopsis, for some reason I dont want to talk too much about the story line and how it goes. Am consciously restricting this review just to the general experience and thought flow during the movie. You might also notice that I have taged this as ’’Plot not revealed’’

Am sure there will be a few more to follow which have a little summary of the story. All I gotta say is that ’’story’’ is a little experimental. Read on more for other aspects to decide if you want to participate in the experiment or not.

1 What a story ! Good to see Hindi movie makers experiment with abs off beat themes. In the midst of all those movies with ’’Dil-tumhara-aapka-mera-humara-pyar-dosti’’ (choose 3-5 words to get a title) etc etc type movies it is refreshing to have a totally different story line. This movie is a serious look at young child-elder woman relationship.

2 Too bad it is A certified (I understand though !) But its greatest appeal would be for the school going junta who either live through this turmoil or see their friends going through it. Unfortunately most of us in the process of so-called growing up very comfortably forget what we experienced/felt/thought when we were in our just about puberty stage. Little wonder most parents have an every ready remark ’’Pagal mat ban - Tu abhee bachcha hai’’ (Dont be an idiot - you are only a kid). I would suggest before watching this movie mentally run through things you did when u were 15. That will make you appreciate the movie big time.

3 Musical Score. I though it was pretty good for movie of this genre. Thankfully no songs !! Phew !

4 Acting. Of reasonably good quality. Manisha at places seemed to over act a bit here and there - specially in her first shot at the PlanetM shop. But over all I thought it was a good attempt by all.

5 Direction/editing .. umm.. here we had a few glaring problem here and there. This kind of stuff you would normally ignore for normal movies but hard to do when you are making something like this. Stuff like you see through a telescope with one eye closed not open and then when the door opens the cycle is next to the door and in the next shot from inside the room u see the cycle kept opp the door. So it seems some very elementary stuff was missed out.

6 General atmosphere through out the movie. Dark and sad ! So if you are looking for a wholesome entertaining movie this is not the one. If you are willing to experiment with a little wierd movie with not necessarily a happy-ending then you can try this one out.

7 Crowd watching the movie. Well for me this was such a powerful force through out the movie that I could not help writing about it :) Owing to the controversy brewing this movie pulled a massive crowd who were there to see you-know-what. And tried as much as I did to concentrate on the movie the comments flowing right across the theater hall made me laugh out on occasions more than once ! As you can probably make out that unless your beau is definitely not prudish you are better off watching this with a gang of friends or better still alone.

btw can someone remind me what is Manisha cribbing about ? I thought she definitely looked ... ahem ... owning extra fat layers with her cloths ON. The one revealing shot featuring who-ever-it-was had a really nice looking bottom. Manisha should actually be happy I thought !! But any way to each his or rather her ’’own’’ !

Am giving this movie as rating of ’’Recommend to friend’’ for the lack of better options. I would do a selective recommendations of this flick. Am sure most of the people will not like it and possibly label it as a drab bore. While others will get a major kick. Have tried explaining here as best (without revealing the plot) as I could to help you judge if you would want to spend your dough on this.
