Ek movie thi..yaad hai?Uska review hai...:)

Ek Hasina Thi

Plot: Its a not-so-original plot, but handled with such deftness that it feels very Hollywood-ish. (I havent watched Double Jeopardy, OR Anjaam OR Gumraah(?) so I cant really compare or say if its lifted)

Basic story: Its about a girl, Sarika Vartak, who’s single and works and lives alone in Mumbai . She meets a man Karan Rathod and gradually falls in love with him.

AND it is because of him, that she later ends up in jail for no mistake of hers. The second half of the story concentrates on her revenge upon the man.

Direction: Direction was very smooth and doesnt seem remotely like the work of a debutante director. Definitely deserves an applause! Amazing skill. ... All the shots and angles of the camera are amazing too.

The transition of Sarika from a gentle, almost timid young girl to a determined, tough woman in the jail is depicted with skill.

Karan’s character has been developed very carefully too.

Performances:

1) Because I haven’t watched Bhoot, I can’t compare Urmila’s performance in EHT to hers in Bhoot. But, by what I saw in EHT, I would say she has done a great job! Really clear expressions. She seems equally convincing in acting out the two facets of her character in the movie. I don’t think she overacted at all.

2) Seema Biswas and the rest are good in their respective roles. The lawyer (I think his name is Aditya Shrivastav) did a good job too. I watch CID and he acts well in that too...so no surprises there.

3) SAIF ALI KHAN: Only one word for him: AWESOME! Wait, I think there’s another one: MIND BLOWING, oh and another one: SUPERB

hehe, he steals the show all the way! He is sooo convincing as Karan Rathod that I was wondering HOW did he play Rohit Patel in KHNH! He was so different in KHNH and EHT! He really has SOME talent! I never watched any of his earlier(90’s) movies, except hamesha, and BOY! has he improved or what!

So now my fav actors table has been revised, and here’s the new edition: 1. Shahrukh Khan (nobody can move him from there! lol ) 2. SAIF ALI KHAN 3. maybe vivek oberoi....not very sure

Dialogues: Great. Very crisp!! Thank GOD! SAK doesn’t go around mouthing dialogues like typical hindi movie hero(s) in love ’’main nahi jaanta mujhe kab tumse pyar ho gaya’’ sort! uggh! I can’t imagine what would have happened to the movie had he actually said so.

Duration: Around 2 hrs, a major plus point.

Music: The only song, which I thought was very similar to Bhoot’s songs, was good too. I liked it :D

Basically, there isnt a typical Kajol-SRK kind of chemistry between the lead pair, BUT that actually works to their advantage. I think so because the chemistry which develops slowly between them lends the movie and characters a realistic edge. The fact that Sarika Vartak (urmila) resists Karan(saif) at first and is not shown falling head over heels for him at first sight, is good to see because otherwise, that realistic-ness would have been lost in the movie.

Cons:

  1. Sarika COULD HAVE taken Karan’s name at the court, rather than confessing, because when it comes to your own life, people automatically do anything they can to save themselves. Its a kind of selfishness thats present in everyone and to see sarika not taking his name, even out of desperation to get herself out of jail, is quite weird.

  2. She is suddenly comfortable with killing people wih guns and stuff. She kills the lawyer, and the mafia guy ’sanjiv’ and is never shown thinking about it twice. It is okay, that she is out there to seek revenge on Karan, but this is still a bit too much to believe coz she is just another girl (as is shown earlier in the movie) and to become so ruthless in a matter of months is...i dunno..I dont believe that.

  3. How come Sarika enters the mafia guy’s home so easily. And she kills him very easily too. Thats impossible. Later too, when Karan takes her back there to confess, she escapes too easily! How come there werent any guards around?

4.How in the world does Sarika get the money to stay at such a big(=obviously expensive) hotel in delhi and drive around in an indica? (or was it a santro)! She is a runaway convict, isnt she?

But, when u watch the movie, these flaws are not -in-your-face flaws like most of other movies. They can be easily ignored and readily forgotten because the movie is pretty gripping and you dont get time to think about these. I have the movie on my computer, and I watched parts of it more than once to write this review. You obviously wont be watching it with the aim of finding its faults. hehe.

So I must say, that I definitely liked the movie, and in case u havent watched it till now, just go watch it. (Is it still runnin in theatres? I’m not sure, most probably it ain’t.., but kya fark padta hai, rent a cd!)

OH I FORGOT THE BIGGEST PRO! DELHI looks really cool in the movie! (except the chandni chowk crowded area) omg I can’t believe I didnt notice SAIF and Urmila were shooting right there in CP! Its just a few mins from my skool!!! :(( why didn’t I know!!!

Btw They increased the speed of shots of the cars on the flyovers and it looked like some foreign country!

Anyways, Dilli looks great.

So GO WATCH THE MOVIE!! !!

I dont expect too many comment coz this movie is old and the revu has nothing new, but if u do leave any, I won’t mind :D (actually, my brain wasnt working AT ALL when I sat down to write this revu)

Ananya

Btw, the revu ends here, but I made a kind of character sketch (KIND OF) of the main character Karan Rathod in the movie, read if u have time to waste :D

Karan:

The guy, from his first meeting with Sarika, shows that he’s a very smart and confident person who knows how to get what he wants. He also comes across as a very suave and clever person.

He finds out many details of Sarika’s life without giving out too much information about himself. (He know where sarika lives, he knows her parents profession(!), he knows her parents are not anywhere in the vicinity. But what does sarika know about him? Just that he works with shares and lives in some hotel. Absolutely nothing else.)

He can manipulate people and circumstances very easily. He knows that saving Sarika from the goons will definitely put him in her good books.

(If u’ve watched the movie, remember? He jokes that he had been waiting for sarika for two hours, and later, that he had hired the ’goondas’ himself’’? We still dont know whether or not he was really lieing! Coz it is quite strange to see him come to her rescue at the middle of the night! What was he doing outside her office exactly at that time?)

And the way he plays the lieing game at Sarika’s place, and gets himself permission to stay the night...very clever!! He has absolutely no regrets or sympathy towards sarika till the very end. A purely ’bad’ guy, he doesnt even consider her as a friend!! All he thinks of is how to save himself!!

He isnt shown having any sorrow even when the other girl(his real(?) girlfriend) dies!

Real bad guy in the truest sense!

( I hafta admit, the way Saif looks throughout the movie= not exactly cute but verrry cool n cute(?) and the way he wooes sarika, , anybody wud have fallen for him, even me!(okay call me dumb)

So..cya people,

Keep reading and rating and COMMENTING
