MEDIOCRE STUFF

Elaan, another film by Vikram Bhatt, looks to be another thriller. The film has Rahul Khanna, John Abraham, Arjun Ramphal, Lara Datta, Amisha Patel, and Mithun Chakravarthy.

Mithun, making a comeback after a gap of a few years, is supposedly the bad guy, in the role of a mafia don. The promos of the film are very slick, and the film is supposed to be about our five heroes ganging up, to fight terrorism and extortion.

The music album of Elaan claims ?Five Unlikely Heroes..one Elaan?. The album has six songs, written by Sameer.

The first song in the album is a love duet called ?Bechain Mera Dil Hai? sung by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik. The song is picturized on Rahul Khanna and Amisha Patel, and is a fast number with good beats and excellent use of the keyboard. There is a lot of English chorus in the background, and the song is reasonably good and hummable. Occasionally, due to the chorus, the song reminds you of the number ?One Love? from Rakth. Udit sings very well while Alka?s voice sounds strained.

The second number is ?Dil Mein Hulchul?. This song is sung by KK and Sunidhi Chauhan, and is picturized on John Abraham and Lara Datta. With the well-proportioned Lara skimpily dressed, and the muscular John bare-chested and with tattooed arms, this song should set the screen on fire. This love song is a very fast one, and there is a Middle Eastern Arabic flavor to the music. KK is excellent while Sunidhi employs her well-known husky voice very well. The female lines reminds one of the title number of the film ?Chaal? and of the popular Star television serial Karma. But a good song, nevertheless, and should have youngsters on the floors, dancing away.

The next number called ?Anderlu Manderlu? (sounding more Telugu than Hindi, what does it that mean anyway?!!), is a group song, picturised on all the 5 lead characters. The song is sung by Sonu Nigam, Anu Malik, Shreya Ghosal and Sunidhi Chauhan. Its a ?tapori? song, with a liberal sprinkling of ?Mumbaiya? Hindi and English, and is more suited to Arshad Warsi and Sanjay Dutt (a la Munnabhai). The accompaniments are on the keyboard and drums. This song has traces of the famous Gokulashtmi song ?Govinda Aala Re?.

Lyrics and background music are pretty ordinary, and this is supposed to be a fun song. This song also reminds one of ?Lal Dupate Wali, Tere Naam To Batha?, from the film Aankhen, starring Govinda and Chunkey Pandey. This song is likely to be a hit on the road, and will be played during Navrathri Dandiya festivals, Ganesh Chaturthi and Gokulashtmi. The same song is available later on in the album, in a remix version, set to different beats, but sticking to the same set of singers and https://lyrics.

The fourth in the album is titled ?Meri Zindagi Mein? and is sung by Gayatri Iyer. This is the longest song in the album and runs for a full seven and a half minutes. Its also the title song of the film, and the lyrics run thus ?Dil Ne Mera Kar Diya, Kar Diya, Elaan, Elaan, Elaan.?

The song is very forceful, and Gayatri sings well, and her voice sounds quite sensuous, though her Hindi does sound accented with English. The song is not a very fast one, and the background music on the guitar is interesting, though it comes quite close to the one that is heard on the James bond title tracks. The background chorus adds a lot of erotic noises like ?yeah? and ?no?. The song may be more watch able tha n listen able.

The fifth and last song on this track is called ?Dua Karna? and is sung by Sunidhi Chauhan. The song starts with some good beats and some synthesized voices in the background, and the song sounds like a fusion of a ghazal, a quawalli and modern Western music. Accompanied by an effective chorus, this song is picturised on the glamorous Lara Datta. Obviously a fast number, it is in the same mold as ?Aaisa Jadoo Dala Re? from the film Khakee, filmed on the same actress. Sunidhi voice should suit Lara very well, as it has the right amount of charm and confidence. This song too employs a lot of guitar.

Overall, the album is strictly ok, and though some of the songs may appeal to certain sections of the public, its unlikely to be a major hit with the public. How the songs blend with the plot of the film and how the film helps the songs to flourish remains to be seen.
