Em Magan - Tamil Movie

I saw the DVD version of this movie very recently at my home. Having been associated with the language and culture of Tamilnadu,  I enjoyed the movie - particularly the Producer/Director’s efforts to convey a strong message to the society in general.

In my opinion, every Producer, director has a moral obligation to the society to convey a message either to any one of the categories for example, the young or the old or the poor or rich. Because, it is the society that is supporting them either through viewing them in a theater or through purchasing a DVD/VCD and viewing at home. The movie in no manner should produce negative effects on the young particularly the age group of 12 to 18.

From that point of view the movie goes for excellent rating. The real hero of the movie is Nasser! His action is superb! If one does not go out of his way the success of the movie is truly because of his role. The Director’s choice in selecting Nasser for that role should be commended.

If I am not hurting the fans of Janani and Krishna  role players their role is supportive to Tirumala - Krishna’s father! to cite some of scenes to the credit of Nasser:

  1. Tirumala’s reaction the moment his daughter tells him of the shortage of Rs. 500/- depicting the feelings of a father doubting his son committing theft!

  2. The scene where every one witness Krishna and Janani kissing each other! Nasser (Tirumala) acted  in a real manner exhibiting the feeling of responsible house holder in punishing his son - that too not as an educated but as an uneducated person but with high moral values. The entire scene was well directed and created. Hats off to every  one.

  3. The when Tirumala learns from the lawyer that he must get the signature of Krishna  to sell his shop, the unpleasant feeling that he should approach his son and the question he puts the lawyer ’Is there no other way?’ great! the lyric writer also should be commended for putting this natural question. Tirumala is a person full of ego - I am the head of the family and what ever I do should be followed by the rest - someone like a dictator!

  4. The scene when he sees his son as grown up man giving directions to others as a head of an organisation - well dressed and with a tie on - the facial expressions of joy and ego are really great.

  5. The last scene of accepting his defeat - Tirumala weeps - a situation unexpected but very well dialoged and directed and acted!

Now, the message of film to the society as I conclude:

  1. Do not do dictatorship in the house. Love and understand the children and their views.

  2. Do not tyrannise the family members. Have patience in knowing the facts before awarding punishment to the growing children.

The movie runs faster in the second half. The director might have deleted excessive dialogs of Vadivelu and must have included a scene wherein the father of Janani should have come to known of her pregnancy. A scene in which the parents of Janani should have visited Krishna and Janani (while they came to know that she was becoming a mother) and tendered apologies instead of showing a small bit of Janani’s father and giving  an apologetic namaskaram to Krishna is insufficient.

As a last word - best complements to Nasser and better for all the rest.

One of the best movies of the day
