Emirates! the most popular airline and the most highly acclaimed airlines the world has to offer.you see the advertisements on television and hear about the number of awards the airline has won.makes you think ’’pretty cool ’’ right.well I didnt have such a bad time on this flight.we were off to egypt on a holiday and we decided to take the emirates flight.one reason being a well known and renown airline and the other was that my mother is a hopping freak.since it is dubai based we had a chance to stop off at the dubai international airport which is well known for its duty free goods.
ABOUT EMIRATES-
the airline company is dubai based and is now the fastest growing airline in the world.the company was launched in the year 1985 and since then grown to be the best airline ever. receiving more than 200 international awards for its excellence and service to the passengers.
emirates has grown larger connecting more than 60 destinations in 42 countries in asia, europe, the middle east, africa and australia.since they are dubai based they have even setup a luxury hotel for your overnight stays and included two lounges in the airport.the fleet basically consists of airbus A330’s and larger boeing 777 airplanes.they also plan to add on the new airbus A340-500 aircraft and will be one of the first companies to fly the new double decker airbus A380 by 2006.
coming back to why emirates is so popular.the main reason is the service, the airline itself and the name it has.the awards that they have won are ’’skytrack airline of the year in 2001 and 2002’’, ’’airline of the year in the years 94, 98, 99 and 2000 during the executive travel and OAG travel awards in the uk’’ and also ’’cargo airline of the year in 94, 95, 98, 99, 2000 and 2001’’.phew I bet those shelves in that office must be being rebuilt to accomodate all those shields and stuff.now you why this airline is chosen half the time.im pretty sure why the executives choose this too.must be the duty free stuff their wives blackmail them for (HA!).
INFLIGHT-
well we took economy class as we had to stick to a budget as we were moving onto europe from egypt for the remaining part of the holiday.there was only one problem I faced at that point.it was space we had in economy class.well most of that space is used to pamper the first class passengers but I feel they could increase it a little more.i felt really cramped up in there and had to get up and take a few walks to stretch my long legs.these are one of the disadvantages of being six feet tall.the service was not bad too.the air hostesses and hosts were polite and prompt with their services.
if you get bored during the flight dont worry the economy class had tv moniters for each seat now.you have a various choice of movies, you can listen to music(english of course) and even a radio.on the whole there are six tv channels and eight audio channels for you to flip through.i remember seeing ’’fast and the furious’’ on one of the flights.these are available on the A310 aircraft.while on the boeing 777 aircraft you can get about 18 tv channels and 22 audio channels.Damn now why didnt we get that jet? passengers who are travelling first or business class are offered a film library with over 50 movies to choose from.sounds enticing? sorry its only for first and business class. then for that child in you there are a bunch of video games ya’ll can play too.i remember playing tetris (brick game) and I never got past the first stage properly.
for those kiddies the staff provide them with little activity bags which is supposed to part of a club they have started called the skyriders club I think.on one of the flights just before we landed one of th staff members came through the cabin taking pictures with a polaroid and giving it people (free of cost) as memorabilia.pretty enthusiastic people I should say.
INFLIGHT PROVISIONS-
ahh now we get down to the real thing right.im pretty sure all of you must be asking about the food and stuff on the flight.ok they have the usual serving of soft drinks, alcohol and liquor like all the airlines have.the menu for the first class, business class and economy are all different.
i was just looking through the first class menu out of curiosity and boy will it make your mouth water.there are varieties of choices between meat , soups , vegetarian all served with really good presentation.the business class menu is no different from the first class menu.now we come to the economy class menu.hmm most of you will be wondering about that.it isnt that bad a choice but presentation is obviously not too exquisite.
PUNCTUALITY-
this is one problem that most airlines do face.getting delayed, cancellations, arrivals are late and so on.we did have a few delays but were pretty minor.after all delays come at the cost of time and times comes at the cost of money for them.
RAGHAV’S JUDGEMENT-
i didnt like the flight like it was something sacred but was good enough to get me from A to B without any hassels.i didnt have any problems with the service except for one occasion.we were returning from, paris back to india via dubai and we had taken emirates obviously.i had no sleep and crossed two times zones already.so basically I was in a cranky mood.my father was sitting next to me on the flight.my father had requested the air hostess for a glass of water.as I was just falling asleep..you know that state where you are half asleep and half awake..i felt a small stream of water go down me head and into my shirt.
looking up I could see the air hostess pouring the water on my head instead of the cup.i really wanted to yell at that point as I was really stressed out but then remembered that I could get thrown off for air rage.but that didnt affect my overall opinion about the airline.it is still one of the best and I would still give it a high rating for its service and my experience on the flight.
