After hearing praise for this book from several people, I finally got around to reading it. I had high expectations for Enders Game and the novel met and surpassed them. Enders Game is the story of a young prodigy, Ender Wiggin, who is drafted into the military. You see, Earth had been attacked twice by aliens called Buggers and the woefully unprepared human space fleet wouldve been crushed had it not been for the brilliant military leader, Mazer Rackham, who led the humans to victory. But now Mazer is gone and the world government has resorted to breeding and training children into military geniuses. The book chronicles Enders experiences in Battle School, the grueling specialized military institution for gifted children. The core curriculum of the school, simulated space battles, is both physically and mentally rigorous. The young Ender prevails against all his opponents in battle, but is he skilled enough to save humanity? Card has done a great job with the novel, especially in humanizing the characters. All the major people in Enders life, and Ender himself, have very distinct personalities and values. In particular, Enders struggle to cope with his gifts and the others expectations of him is very poignant. The plot was a bit predictable, but overall very interesting and entertaining. Overall, I think Enders Game is a great book and I recommend it highly to everyone.
