English Vinglish is a 2012 Indian comedy-drama film. This film is about a homemaker(Sridevi) who enrolls in an English-speaking course to stop her husband and daughter mocking her lack of English skills. This film is just amazing. There are so many people in our country who can’t speak English. Maybe they have faced many awkward situations in their lives just because they don’t know another language. Sometimes I wonder why we should know so many languages! I know Bengali, Hindi, and English.3 in 1. But why should I? That’s why we Indians are so talented when it comes to a new language. In this film Sridevi successfully completes her English Speaking course and get a certificate. At the end of the movie in her speech, Sridevi extols virtues being married and having a family, describing the family as a safe space of love and respect where weaknesses are not mocked. Sridevi’s husband and daughter regret treating her with disrespect. Every Indian should watch this film and should realize that never underestimate anybody just because he/she doesn’t know another/one more language.
