Being an NRI. with property in Maharashtra I tend to travel frequently to Mumbai and my ancestral village.
One day last July I decided to venture out one night to kill some time and check out Mumbais nightlife. Decided on Enigma on a friends recommendation. Had a good time and left, no regrets other then the fact I blew too much money there.
In the first week of August, I brought some of my village friends over to Mumbai and decided to treat them to a night on the town, and since they have never have been to a club, I set out to take them to Enigma, more to show them what a Disco in Mumbai is like and to ease their curiosity.
As soon as my driver dropped off us in front of the hotel, we went inside to enter the club, then the problems began. The doorman was letting us through, when a so called manager from the club stopped us and denied us entry. His reason was that we were too many guys (3 total) and with no girls.
I explained to him that I do not live in India, and my buddies do not live in Mumbai and where are we supposed to get girls to accompany us to a night club at this time. I know some girls in India, but they are either cousins or friends of my family, and know way in hell am I going to call them at night to come to a night club so we can get in.
After some talk with this manager, he has to nerve to say "ok, you can go in but these two cant", I asked him why? No answer, take it or leave it. I explained to him that my buddies were not poor but very wealthy and came from very powerful families, and you are insulting us by letting in patrons that look like they work at shopping malls, while we wait here.
We left, and I knew that there is a Hard Rock Cafe near my residence, so we went there. No problem, had a good time. Since the crap sevice I received in Enigma, my mother was intending to book my wedding reception next year at JW Marriot, which I told her to switch to ITC Shearton...
