TRASH is the one word to describe the Epson Stylus 480 printer. My dilemma with this printing disaster started just over a week after we bought it. The Shopkeeper told us that this was the most economical and best selling epson printer and we fell into the trap!
The first 10 printouts were superb and I was quite satisfied but the noise which the printer made made me wonder whether it was really an inkjet! This printer has three modes for color and two modes for black printing.
1)Economy Mode: In this mode black printout seems like ancient scriptures and zig-zag lines which are like a world war code.U can never print in the economy mode.
2)Automatic Mode: This is the real working mode in which I develop my printouts. The print quality is good.
3)A quality and speed balance is also available. If u comprimise on speed , u get better quality and vice-verca.
For color printing, a photo-enhance mode is available in which color printouts turn out better but this mode is very thirsty. Also Custom mode is available in both black and color ink in which one can add some more effects.
One can also set the doppler per inch(dpi) level.
BEWARE!
1)Noise is tremendous.Whenever voltage fluctuates the printer head readjusts itself and produces NOISE. Imagine your printer making NOISE in the middle of the night!
2)The plastics used are of cheap quality and one of the plastic clips of my printer broke after 3 months.
3)There is no paper collection tray and one has to manually collect the printout as it comes out!
4)The Ink mileage is poor even if the ink is relatively cheap. The color ink dosent last more than 40-50 good quality printouts and if u dont print the cartridge simply dries up!
5)Paper jams regularly my friends and the eject dosent work.U have to take another printout to eject the paper
So, if u are going in for a printer stay away from this one!
