I had opportunity to live in Ethiopia with my family from 1976*to 1980. As a Mechanical Engineer, specialised in Sugar Engineering, I was posted in one of the Sugar factories at Wonji. Later I was shifted to their Metahara Sugar factory.
I had 2 sons that time...2 yrs old and 3 months old! My daughter was born in Metahara in 1978. I can never forget such a nice natural beautiful country. Lot of natural game parhs, hot spring swimming pools, bird santuary etc. We had lot of fun with our family and friends.
The people- Ethiopians are so kind and helpful, as the first Indian family in the Sugar estate..many were Dutch, we have been given special hospitality as we used to mis with Ethiopians as our own country people ......not like Dutch people...restricted to their own Dutch Community.
Addis Ababa, the Capital is a Beautiful City with number of Star Hotels. I am so glad that I will be making a Business trip to Ethiopia shortly this year. I will write more about Ethiopa after my return. Now you can get your Visa at the airport on landing.
Climate is very good...no fan ...no a/c...lot of forest animals and birds to see in natural atmosphere....tasty Italian foods.....the best Coffee you can ever find....beautiful roads (high ways) lot of tourist spots to spend weekend....if you are a beer drinker (not me now..!) you will get the best lager beer....I will recollect and write more after making my visit..
The best part is this time I am going as Consultant to the same Sugar factory where I worked as Chif Engineer....I will begging to new place known as ’Finchaa’ in Ethiopia where we are installing a new Sugar factory! I will also write about Kenya where I used to go often in early 80’s as consultant. *
