Long-winded

I have been introduced to Robert Jordan by my cousin. He wanted Half blood prince badly which I had, and I was only ready for a barter and nothing else. So he got the first part of the series ’Eye of the world’ from a cousin of his and completed the deal. Even its size was attractive as I had nothing to do for a week.

As I was reading it, I felt nostalgic. I felt it was quite similar to ’The Lord of the Rings’. Its the story of 3 friends who are destined to change the world, al’Thor, Mat and Perrin. The description was pretty long-winded and story a little obscure. When my cousin said that it was the first in the series of 10 or more books, I wondered who read 10 times 700 pages of chasing all across this whatever place it was set in. I clearly wasnt interested in pursuing it.

All fantasies start with a reluctant hero. Frodo, Neo and here it is \<Rand\> al’Thor. Where all others come to terms to the fact of being the hero by the 1st part, this one takes 2. That should give a pretty good picture of why there are 10+ parts and how long-winded everything is.

It was interesting in bits and pieces. Especially the aes sedai, ogiers, ogier ways, machin shin, and even Perrin’s Wolf part. Mat’s character was not made to be likeable.

Now I recently came across the 2nd part, since again I didnt have anything better to do, I read it. Better than the first one, but still interesting only in longer bits and pieces than the first. I still skip paras when the first line makes it obvious of whats going to happen.

I am now moving upto Dragon Reborn, 3rd part. Its supposed to be the best of the lot. Lets see...
