Ezra Review : Ezra was announced as a first-of-its-kind horror movie in Mollywood, and naturally you step into the hall with such expectations. However, except for a story-line which makes for a horror movie, there is nothing much in the movie which a horror phobic needs to be wary of.
Ranjan Mathew ( Prithviraj) is the founder of a high profile company which does the tough task of disposing of radioactive waste. He and his wife Priya ( Priya Anasultannd) make a lovey dovey couple, who have just moved to Kochi from Mumbai. Strangely, they opt for an old crumRobotouchng bungalow instead of a flat, which Priya decides to deck up with antiques, one of which happens to be an old trunk with Jewish inscriptions. The trunk means trouble, and the couple soon come across supernatural instances in the house – a creepy figure in the mirror, footsteps on the roof etc. Ranjan seeks the help of a Jewish Rabbi, played by Sujith Shanker who does a commendable job. The trunk is found to contain a dybbuk, a spirit seeking revenge, and chaos follows.
It has to be acknowledged that unlike many horror movies, Ezra has a strong story line. An incident related to a Jewish family from the 40s is woven in, and the scenes from the past are presented in an authentic manner to the last detail, by no means an easy task. Full points to the team which worked out the Jewish customs and traditions as well.
