As a sports enthusiast, I have always been a huge fan of the Formula One race. It is one of the best sports that I enjoy watching. And this is why the release of the F1 movie was a great excitement for me. True to my expectations, the movie was really very entertaining with realistic and exhilarating visuals. Along with the movie story, the lead actor of the movie(Brad Pitt) was also the reason behind my watching this movie. I have grown up watching his movies. His acting is unmatched, and no one can replace him. The way he has returned to F1 after a thirty-year absence to save his former teammates underdog team, APXGP, from collapse is outstanding.
The Story
The movie revolves around Sonny Hayes(Brad Pitt), a former F1 driver who left the sport after a career-altering accident. But, after an absence of 30 years, he returned to save his friend Rubens(Bardem) underperforming team APXGP. He becomes the mentor and the teammate of young, talented driver Joshua Pearce(Idrish) to help the team achieve success. Further in the movie, it shows the high-stakes world of F1, including the race and the intense pressure faced by drivers and teams.
Apart from sport, the movie has shown some romantic elements between Sonny Hayes and Kerry Condon( a team technical director), whose relationship is depicted as a flirtatious romance, developed into a casual fling with implied intimacy.
Positive Aspects
The cinematography, particularly the racing sequence, is spot on, and the visuals are impressive, which will be enhanced by watching in IMAX. The use of real cars and races in some scenes has taken the movie to the next level, especially for sports lovers like me. Apart from it, the acting of all the characters is outstanding and very close to real, especially Brad Pitts acting. Along with his driving and sportsman scenes, his flirtatious romance with Kerry is not primary but impressive, especially his facial expressions. I loved it and enjoyed it a lot.
Negative Aspects
Although I loved the movie very much, highlighting its areas for improvement is a must. No doubt the movie’s cinematography and visuals have left a lasting impression, but somewhere, its plot was formulaic, and the dialogue was cliched and uninspired. Also, being a sports person, I felt some parts of the movie sacrificed technical accuracy for the dramatic effects, which could be improved. Though I enjoyed the movie, it was too long, especially for those who are not associated with sports, and some of its scenes lost the pace and were too slow, which was also quite boring.
Final Words
F1 is an American sports drama movie that has successfully shown the F1 race and the challenges faced by F1 race drivers and teams to achieve success. The movie excels in its visual presentation and action sequences, which have been the center of interest throughout the movie, but the plot could be improved. The acting of the lead character, Brad Pitt, has won my heart. He has beautifully portrayed the character of a mentor who contributes his best for the success of a lagging team. Although watching a movie depends on personal interest and cinematic tropes, I would highly recommend watching this movie, as it’s really one of the best sports dramas I have ever watched.
