I have been a big fan of Fab India ever since I got to know of it some 10 years ago. When I moved, I had made a mental note that Fab India had its presence in this new city, as well. So, when I decided to stop going to Fab India it was because I was hurt at their treatment to me.
I stay in a place where I do not speak the local language so many times there are wrong messages conveyed. I think I conveyed something and the other person thinks something all together different. However, I bought this quilt cover for my home. I quite liked it but I was not sure whether the size was right because the quilt at my home is queen-size(I took the single-bed cover because the double bed cover size seemed big.) So I told the salesperson that I would like to buy it but if the size is a problem I will bring it back and take the larger size. he agreed.
I got back home and tried the quilt cover, it was small. Next day, I went back with it. The person at the billing told me that they had a new policy that mandated against exchange. She pointed to Point 3 on a chart that had stated this fact to all customers, which I had not read. I told about the salesperson who denied it. Obviously he did not understand my English and I did not understand his Malayalam.
However, the incident reminded me of small shopkeepers in Pune who would be extremely high-handed because they were the only store in their locality. "Take it or leave it" that was their attitude. That day I felt Fab India reeked of it and I told myself I will never visit any of its stores anywhere.
