Fair and deadly ???

Hi all, first of all I apologize for not writing on mouthshut for so long ( exams were there, not my fault!!). You might be surprised by the topic I am writing on but it has been bugging me since God knows when and finally got the courage to blast my fury in its direction.

Since the string of Miss World?s and Miss Universe?s we got in the 1990?s, our Indian market suddenly got flooded with all kinds of cosmetics from international brands to new local brands. A product like fair and lovely which was available as a fairness beauty cream was for one and all and was extensively used.

No one minded applying it as what else could one want if their skin deep color was changing from a natural dark color to a fairer one? Any person arguing at this stage against using it to improve one?s complexion would be considered idiotic. If you agree then consider the following scenario and analyze what it is resulting in.

A very famous advertisement of Fair and lovely, people keep on rejecting a girl because she has a dark skin and keep on mentioning to the girl that if she gets married to this person or that person, she should consider herself lucky. But lo, an about turn takes place, and that girl begins to use fair and lovely and in due time starts to glow like a bulb and now the boy is considered lucky.

Now lets see what does this mean, it means that if you are fair only would you be considered for marriage, a ritual like marriage where a person is supposed to be the better half gets her life decided by skin deep complexion and not necessarily the inner personality of how she really is.

Another famous ad, this time of a girl in the habit of being a commentator and providing a commentary for galli matches. Mom comes innocently and replaces her fictitious mike with fair and lovely. And again, she starts using it, starts to glow like a bulb soon enough and she successfully bags a job just because she is now looking much prettier!!

So, all you aspirants out there, stop studying and working hard. Unless you don?t apply fair and lovely, you won?t be successful in your life!! Look at the inconsiderate message being given that , ?Hello !!Wake up. This world is only for the fairer people, rest of all please stay at home unless you apply fair and lovely.? Oh yeah? Tell that to Naomi Camphbell or our own Bipasha Basu!!

Now I know at this stage if I was in front of you, you would start lambasting me with statements like ? Its true, people really look and prefer girls who are more fairer and have a rather more good complexion? . I agree, hundred percent and I can say that 90 % of our people do that only.

But why? If you have a perception that skin deep beauty is everything and internal beauty that is things such as compassion, trust, honesty and etc. don?t matter at all and the pose in the photo frame with you and your life partner matters more so that you can show off in front of your guests and get comments like ?Wow, What a perfect couple!!?, then be ready to face everything.

I don?t mean or imply to say that fairer sex people are stubborn or prudish or anything like that but if the inner character is neglected and external beauty Is given more preference as it is being showcased by the much viewed Fair and lovely ads, it directly leads to injustice being done to thousands of girls sitting at home right now having souls like that of angels but not getting married because of absence of external beauty and which is causing there life to become more struggling because of irresponsible and pathetic ads being shown by such companies just to increase their turnover.

This is causing hundreds of youths to turn their attention towards external beauty and deviating their mindsets to go in a direction of illusion and expectation that they want the best looking life partners possible meanwhile making them ignorant of what really to look for in a life partner.

I know I am no pandit or great preacher to say what I had said but thought that at least one should realize and if possible make others realize that looks and skin color isn?t the end of the line. A lot else matters with the correct priority being given to things which matter most?. Adios amigos.
