A trip to the Imaginary...

Can you drown in music? If so, you can certainly drown in Evanescence, and yet not suffocate. This drowning is different, it gives you air, rather than taking it away. The music is special... it haunts you, pulling your mind and soul into the lyrics, the feelings behind each song and into an imaginary world. I first heard this group sing Bring me to life, and decided I had to have this album...

So here goes for a brief review of my 5 favorite songs by Evanescence.

  1. Imaginary

In my fields of paper flowers...

the feelings conveyed by this song are as real as paper flowers are unreal. Amy Lee’s voice is just awesome and as the song unfolds, you do find yourself wandering into an imaginary world. This will be a definite hit with those who have a strong imagination and enjoy poignant https://lyrics. You’re transported, and you’re very much free to interpret the song as you please. But for me, the song tells of a girl who locks herself in an imaginary world to get relief from reality. The emotions flow pure, the sound is soft and sweet... a must for fans of alternative rock.

  1. My Immortal

You can definitely be carried away by this ballad. Amy Lee’s voice is haunting, with a tragic quality that match the https://lyrics. This is one song that always seems to have a calming effect on me. If you’re the sort who enjoys quiet moments with yourself and your CD player, go for it. If you enjoy sad ballads, or simply enjoy gentle music, good, voices and a great instrumental effect, this one’s for you too! And if like me, you’re just a fan of Evanescence, just put this one on, close your eyes, sit back and let go...

  1. Going Under

Oooh, this one sounds kind of angry! Not to mention that it has an awesome electric guitar that just makes you wish you could grab an electric guitar yourself and play away. Don’t want your hand this time I’ll save myself... Isn’t that a strong message? To me it sounds like someone ready to stand on their own feet and learn to live for themselves. Going under yes, but with a chance to break through the surface. Listen to it if you like electric guitars, or, more rock sounding music.

  1. Bring me to life

Wake me up inside,

call my name and save me from the dark

bid my blood to run

Before I come undone,

Save me from the Nothing I’ve become

Bring me to life...

This is the refrain from Bring me to life. Speaks a thousand words doesn’t it? This is the first song I heard by Evanescence, and what caught my attention was the electric guitar (can’t get enough of a well played electric guitar), and the catchy refrain. When you listen in though, and see the video... are you hooked or what! The video, while being dark, perfectly matches the lyrics of the song, and the end of the song, mixing male and female vocals, is just awesome. The song becomes a call for help, and I see it as a call to the one you love to help you become the best you can be, and never sink into despair in life, hence the ’’save me from the nothing I’ve become’’ This song is just too good.

  1. Where will you go

The intro music on this one is awesome! (there that word again, but I can’t seem to qualify Evanescence’s music in any other way!) I initially bought the album after hearing Bring me to life, My Immortal and Going Under, but this one quickly joined my favorites list. ’’You can’t escape’’, someone complained, sounds like an ominous warning. It sounds more like advice to a friend to stop running away from life. But then, that’s the good thing about Evanescence. The lyrics are great, and really deep, almost poetic in fact. And like any good poem, they’re left to free interpretation, but what’s certain, it will have an impact on you, hopefully a positive one, like it did for me.

Evanescence has all the ingredients to be added to the CD list of anyone with varied tastes. You’ll enjoy it, and even if this isn’t initially your favorite type of music, it does grow on you! Be curious, go find out what it’s all about...
