The Story
Family is the story of Viren Sahai (Big B) and his power...the power which ultimately leads to his downfall... On first look you feel Big B’s Viren Sahai is a pick-up from The Godfather.. But this movie is no Godfather folks...
Shekhar Bhatia (Akshay) is a Cook living with his parents (Anjan Srivastava, Bharti Achrekar) and brother Aryan (Debutante Aryeman).. His is the usual happy-go-lucky kinda guy who is totally obsessed with his family. His obsession is clear from the fact that one drop of blood on his bro’s face is enough incentive for him to bash a whole gang of goons.. (Action sequences in the movie are pretty slick but at times unreal).
Falls in love with Bhoomika Chawla (obviously who else ! cant be bharti achrekar)..
and after much effort and 4 songs gets married to her. Brother Aryan is the usual spoilt brother who loves to get into trouble with the backing that he has a over-protective brother.
now one fine day due to some stupid fight with his dad aryan leaves home and akshay goes to their adda to bring him back....
Guess whats the next scene guyz??
Akshay’s dead ! Aryan goes home to find his family in white (get it idiots someone’s dead).... Finds his family mourning over his brother’s death..
Finds from the police that Viren Sahai was the one responsible for the death..
You dont have to be a rocket scientist to guess what happens next...
Ya you guessed it right.. Decides to take revenge...
In between we are shown glimpses of Viren Sahai’s power...
Teens with some stupid guys he calls friends and as if they have no other work in life they take up the oath to kill Viren Sahai..
One by one they kidnap Viren Sahai’s family members..(as if its some walk in the park)...
Next follows a series of conversations on the phone between BigB and Aryeman..
and the usual cat and mouse play..
This goes on and on and in between Aryan tells AB’s family his dukhda.. Aryan keeps telling Viren S to reach this place and that place which gets to your head at times..
Next Shernaz Patel (Big B wife) is rushed to the hospital due to some unknown illness ..later she is shot or rather mis~shot by guess who? Her own son(sushant singh)
Then our good at heart don decides to fulfil his wife’ s ’ankhiri iccha’~~ to leave this don-giri once and for all...
He surrenders but son has other ideas ’’Lagta hain budhe ka dimaag khisak gaya ..ude do saale ko.. ek khokha bhejta’’
A line which you are forced to remember as BigB keeps muttering it over and over again..
Shushant then meets BigB and before he could kill him ya you guessed it right .. Aryan kills him..
Big B then pleads.. Mar do mujhe ab jeene ko bacha hi kya hain.. Aryan replies ’’tumhari sazza tumhari maut mein nahin .. tumhari zindagi mein hain...’’
movie ends (thank god!)
Performances
BIGB~~~~ He is as usual Brilliiant.. Tries hard to get that Marlon Brando Look .. He is as you may say is the only saving grace in the movie ... But the sheer brilliance of the Commissioner In Khakhee is surely missing... But to say the least Family belongs to Amitabh Bachchan
Akshaye Kumar~~~Akshay like old wine keeps getting better and better..
He is simply stunnig in whatever he does.. be it the comic sequences between or the action scenes.. sometimes you wish that why didnt he die.. its aptly said ’’family dies with akshaye’’..
Bhumika She is terrific .. Looks good throughout the movie esp. in Katra Katra (what lips yaar!)... In the hospital scene with BigB she actully overshadowes him completely..Brilliant !
Aryemaninspite a dream debut against stalwarts like BigB and Akshay.. Aryeman disappoints with his over-acting .. he needs to polish his acting skills to a great extent..He is imminently passable
Shushant Singh In a jiffy a big disappointment...

Gulshan Grover He is the gun-supplier to the Dandia Gang (dats what he calls the gang)
Shenaz PatelShe plays the don’s wife.. she is bearable throughout the movie....

Rajkumar Santoshi does not repeat the Khakhee magic in Family...
Please watch Family only if your’e a Big B fan..
The comedy is in patches
The movie is watchable... but no Godfather
